The Mettio'list uni-versity people held another meeting last evening ami reported everything pro-gressing toward the eied'um of tiiat building. It is estimated that at least f 10,000 will he in the hands of the treas-urer in the next twenty days. The con-tract for construction will then ha let and work pushed as fast as money can lie collected. A petition is being gotten up asking the people to donate certain amounts payable in 25 per cent wheu the contract is lot, 0 per cent when the lit (t story is u, 25 per cent wheu the second story is up and 20 per cent when the building in com-pleted. The projectors are at work in earnest and the university w ill proba-bly be completed beforo many mouths. the money has been deposited with a New York bank. Then any amount can be drawn from banks hero for im-mediate use. The produce exchange had a lively meeting yesterday. Everything had more of a business appearance, and dealers seemed inclined to take hold of produce. David Peebles presented the exchange with a box of very large strawberries. Tho members enjoyed them and while they lasted did not talk much business. - -- f- 4- In the probate court yesterday Judge A. C. Hishop heard the case of Harvey G. Taylor vs. Hill Hamilton, and by consent it was continued until Friday. In the case of VV. A. Boll charged with criminal intimacy with his sister Uru-sill- a J tell, hearing was continued till Saturday. July (i was set for the hear-ing of petition "to transfer real estate to the widow of James Ward. - The real estate transfers yesterday were not so large as on Monday. The total amount was $7,5:51. Seven trans-fers were made. University Place came in for $000, and West Ogden se-cured of the transactions. On Saturday Thatcher" 'Minstrels will hold the boards. The electric railway is being pushed as rapidly as men can do the work. A large force of men are kept at work everyday. They are tearing up the old car tracks and putting down new ties and rails for tho electric. The power house is under good headway and soon the electric cars will be pass-ing the main business points every five minutes. - - II. W. Rhodes has been visiting tho lire departments of Salt Lake and I'rovo in behalf of the Fourth of July committee. Ha returned yesterday very much enthused over his visit. The departments from both cities will be here and participate in tho great cele-bration. i - On next Saturday the motion for tho new trial in the Grilliu murder case will come t.p in the district court. This case has been lingering almost one yesx during which Gritlin has languish-ed in the penitentiary. He was tried at tho last term of court and found guilty of voluntary manslaughter.- His attorneys moved for a new trial and after being put off once it will come up again on Saturday, A petition asking that the verdict be set naide and sen-tence be not pronounced has received the signatures of several citizens. J, Weber, Sol Meyer and several other knights went to Salt Lake City to attend the meeting of the grand lodge. The Knights of Pythias have soveral good substantial member in the Junc-tion city. The uniform rnnk made a fine display on Decoration day and are preparing for a similar time on the 4th of July, Since the republican party principles have been preached to the citizens of Weber county, the cry about organiz-ing a farmer' alliance has not been heard. Many good, honest men had heard nothing but Cleveland doctrine until quite recently, and therefore were thoroughly disgusted with politics. Hut republican doctrine, when once heard, convinced thorn of their error, and scores of fanners are seen almost every day who say that the principles of the republican party are far ahead of any alliance that can be made in the interest of the farming community. Arrangements are being made for tho grand opening of the new Reed Hotel on the lirst of July. Tho work of com-pleting and furnishing the interior is progressing at a rapid rate and every-thing will be in readiness for the open-iug- .
