Show NEW MEXICO NOTES. Quite a number of indictments have been found by the grand jury of the United .Slates now in session at Albuquerque. Albu-querque. N. M., against parties charged with selling liquors to tho .Navajo Indians. The Citizen nays that in consequence con-sequence of such transactions cases of theft and other outragos have heen traced to drunken Navnjos, and on frequent occasion women have been insulted at (iallnp by drunken Indians The punishment of the parties engaged in this trnllio ought to bo sure and swift. In this conuection we note that Colonel W. J. Marmon has been appointed ap-pointed by the intorior department for the purpose, and will begin on April 1 an enumeration of the Navajos. This will be tho first census ever taken of the tribe. |
