Show Jilt. Goschex, chancellor of the exchequer, ex-chequer, in presenting the budget at the opening of the session of tho British parliament, made a curious calculation in connection with the increase of revenue from the tobacco tax. This increase amounted to ' 150,000, and Mr. (lost hen estimated that it represented an increase of 500,000,000 in the number num-ber of pipes of tobacco smoked during the year. Those who may think that the weed is dropping into disfavor will not find much encouragement in the chancellor's figures. |
