Show Out of Fashion. New York Sun. "I understand," said the Growler, "that the lorgnette is going out of fashion, fash-ion, and I am delighted if the rumor is true. There is nothing in this world that can turn a sweet little woman into a supercilious snob so easily as the lorgnette. lorg-nette. They mako me feel uncomfortable uncomfor-table wherever I see them. When I see a woman looking at me through the lorguetto I feel as if my clothes were nine or ten sizes too large for me; I experience ex-perience the sensation which I imagine the victim of a hypnotist feels when the eye of the master is fixeil upon him. The lorgnette is a success only as a discourager dis-courager of mashers, and is, so far to be commended; but when it tackles self-respecting manhood and makes him dwindle, it becomes little short of criminal and should be suppressed by fashion if not by law.'' |
