Show WANT THE. TROOPS. The Commissioners of the World's Fair Mast Hut. the Hlae Hoy.. The subjoined circular was a part of the conteuts of Governor Thomas' mail yesterday: , To the Adjutant General of Ltah, halt Lake City, Utah: Dear Sir-The act of congress creating the orld's Columbian Col-umbian exposition provides that the formal dedication of the buildings shall take place in October, 1WI2, with appropriate appro-priate ceremonies. The committeo on ceremonies or the national commission, in joint session wiih a like committee from the Chicago directory, has decided to make the ceremonies in October, 1W2, tho main ceremonies of the exposition. For the purpose of formulating a plan and a scope of ceremonies which would suitably carry out the evident inteution of congress, a sub-comraittoo, with Mr. Charles T. Yerkes as chaiimau, has been designated by the joint committee, to have full charge of the ceremonies and to take immediate steps for carrying carry-ing them out. Among the attractions decided upon is a military parade, to take place on Tuesday, October 11th, composed of the llower of the regular army and of the national guard of the United States. The troops will arrive and go iuto camp or suitable and convenient quarters, quar-ters, on Monday, October 10th. and remain re-main until Saturday, October 15th. 13. In addition to tho review and parade, there will be grand dress parades and brigade and regimental drills. It is also the deBire of tho committee to have a larger representation of the cavalry and artillery arms of the service thaa has been brought together since the war. I am directed by the committee to give vou this early notice, trusting that vou will officially bring the matter before be-fore your legislature and ask for an appropriation, ap-propriation, either special or out of the amount which may be voted for a state world's fair exhibit, to pay for transportation trans-portation and subsistence en route for such troops from your state as may take part in these ceremonies. There will be no competitive drills for money prizes, as extended correspondence corre-spondence with national guard officers throughout the country develops a very general opposition to such an idea. You will please notify this committee of the probable action of your territory, about how many troops you will send, the arms of service represented, and &uch other additional information as your future action will bring forth, together to-gether with any suggestions you may see proper to make in regard to these dedication ceremonies. Your obedient servant, E. C. Ct'LP, Secretary Committee on Ceremonies. When catechised concerning the probable prob-able action of the troops in the Fort Douglas jurisdiction in the matter, a staff officer stated that it was one of those events so remote that k was impossible im-possible to determinj what 'the programme pro-gramme would be at this time. Utah's exhibit, however, would scarcely be complete without a sample of her chiv-alric chiv-alric grandeur, and it is very likely that the roster will all be there when the reveille is sounded. |
