Show The Omaiia Dee declares its belief that the beet sugar industry w ill soon bo ono of the most important in the state of Nebraska. There can hu no doubt that the .successful establishment of the business of making sugar from beets will add to the opportunities of the farmers to such an extent as to make their occupation far more profitable. profit-able. There is an enormous amount of sugar consumed in the United States ami its production here would increase the revenues of our people to the full extent of the value of the consumption. consump-tion. Even our free trade friends who insist that the way for the country to get rich is to purchase from foreign nations have to change front on such a proposition as this ono of home production of our sugar supply. The prospect that the i industry will be a success is highly j ilatteriug. It seems to be progressing ! rapidly in Nebraska and at other points; I aud it will certainly spread to many sections after it shall have once secured a lirm foothold. Utah is very much j interested in this matter. Her soil and climate are peculiarly well adapted to : the growing of the beet, and it is possi-ble possi-ble for all the sugar needed in the territory terri-tory to be produced right here. Tho money thus saved to the people in a j single year would bo sullicieul to line j a block with line business structures; : to build a great system of irrigating ! canals, or to construct miles upon nidus, j of railroad. , j |
