Imbodeii, of Virginia, before the ways anil means committee, when asked what influence, if any, he thought tlte general system of Protective duties had upon the south, said: I have been a Protectionist all my life, I lirst voted in Is W for Mr. Clay. I say to you today gentlemen on this committee will differ from me that if we had a fair and square election upou that single question, without extraneous circumstances, we would carry four out of fivo of tuesouthern states overwhelmingly. |
