Show I Time for Objection. 1 London, March 24. A deputation of merchants engaged in trade with Newfoundland, New-foundland, visited Wm. Henry Smith, government leader in the commons today to-day for the purpose of urging delay on the part of the government in passing throutrh parliament the bill introduced iu the house of lords to make operative upon Newfoundland New-foundland the modus viveudi between Great Britain and France relative to the rights of the latter nation upon that island, which bill is bitterly opposed by the people of Newfoundland. Smith informed them that an interval of twenty-six days would elapse between the time the bill was introduced and the time for second reading, which would oiler suflicient time for its opponents op-ponents to prepare their objections for presentation. |
