Show Fatal Quarrel about Mine Property. Nogales, Ariz., Oct. 29. G. W. Rood, a carpenter of this city, shot and instantly killed James Farrell, a prominent promi-nent mining man whose home is in San Francisco. It appears that Rood was at one time one of three owners of the Cerro Blanco group of mines near Imuris, Sonora, which Farrell last fall placed with a syndicate of English capitalists, mostly stockholders in the London, Paris and American Amer-ican bank. This syndicate organized or-ganized the Imuris Mines company, limited, and made Farrell manager. man-ager. Hood claimed that he had not been paid his share of the proceeds of the sale, and had repeatedly called upon Farrell for a portion of the money. A few days ago Farrell stepped out as manager of the company, and his place was taken by Agent Leman, who was sent here from England. Rood was seen to approach Farrell and hana him a pnper. But a few words had : passed, when Rood raised a shotgun he carried in his hand and fired, thirteen buckshot entering en-tering FarrclPs body in the region of the heart. Rood tnen walked across the line into Mexico and started over the hills, but he was soon overtaken and quietly gave himself up to the officers and was locked up on the Mexican Mex-ican side. The affair has caused intense in-tense excitement here, owing to the prominence of Farrell and the great wealth of the company with which he was connected. Rood has been an ex -ceptionably quiet and peaceable man, and much ' astonishment is express ed over his action. |
