George came here from Sandy wilh$3.75 in an inside pocket and a desire to inako a thoroughbred of himself. He stopped at the "wreckage" dry goods shop at 111 Main street, the name of which is quite in keeping with its character, char-acter, and purchased a pair of $2 shoes. He also priced a pair of pantaloons, panta-loons, but they were too rich for him, being quoted at $1.50. But when he gave up his money for the shoes the wrecker on the other side of the counter handed him back change to cover the price of both shoes and trousers. In vain George swore he didn't want the trousers. He pointed out the fact that he had to eat, but the other chap was inexorable. Then George hasted to John M. Young and told him his tale of woe. The chief accompanied ac-companied him to the shop, and the dealers were very, very willing to make good. |
