The continuation of the artesian well and underflow water Investigation, for: which appropriation was made on the taut day of the last session of congre, to be nndor the control of the department depart-ment ot agriculture, has been organized organ-ized aud will be in operation la Teae, Nebraska and the Dakotas next week. Colonel E. T. Nettlelon of Denver is the chief engineer and he will make a report on tho methods of utlllm jr the waters for Irrigation, which will b.i of great value where irrigation Is new. Professor Hay of Kansas will be chief geologist and will make a report on the probable area of the water bearing strata of the great plaint and tho sou row of the water supply. In Washington, the literary and statistic' report of the work will be in charge of Mr. Iliuton. Colonel Nettleton and party will probably reach Colorado some time in December, lie and Professor Hay will leave Washington for the Dakntaa to morrow morning. Secretary Rusk today, to-day, in bidding them good-bye, said: ''Tell the people of tho"wvt that I am with them, and tell thon: that I am going to take charge of the weather bureau next July, and I am going to make It rain for them, and if I cannot make it rain water 1 am going to make It rain wheat." |
