The work ou the new Holmes business busi-ness block on State Road, ne.u Second South street has been commenced. The contracts havo been let as follows: Brick and foundation work, to Kleiu-beck Kleiu-beck & Parsons for $11,000. Cut stone work to Hall Bros, for $5000. Carpenter work to Sol Reeso for $12,-200. $12,-200. Iron work To tho South Halstead Sheet Iron workers of Chicago, for $2540. The contracts for the plumbing and painting have not yet been let. j The building is being erected under mo superinteiuloncy ot Architect J. A. Hazoll, who represents John J. Hud-dart, Hud-dart, the Denver architect, in this city. Mr. llazell ame here some four months ago from California, where bo had the reputation of being one of the finest architects on tho Pacific coast. The plans for the Holmes building were made by Hubbard & Jacobson, of Denver. The building will be ono of the finest in every detail iu Salt Lako Oily. It will have a 97 foot front aud be HI) feet deep. It will be built of stone and brick and be three stories with a basement. The facade will be particularly striking. strik-ing. Tho entrance will be through massive mas-sive stone arch, elaborately carved. The front of the building will 'bo brick trimmed trim-med with Kvuno aud red sandstoue. Ou the first tloor will bo four largo store rooms. Tho two central rooms will bo entered through side doors opening op-ening off the main hall. On the second and third floors will be sixty-five offices. The corridors are wide and well lighted. The gas fittings and details of the plumbliug will bo the finest of any in tho city. The same firm is now remodelling the old Javvish synagogue for Mr. K. M. Biggs und converting it into a lodging house. This work will cost $11500. |
