Show I : Senator Edmand. ' Senator Edmunds is a queer old fellow. fel-low. A week or two ago he obtained leave of absence from the senate for aU days on account of ill health. It was supposed he was going to the seaside or mountains of his own Vermont to recuperate, recu-perate, but instead he went to Welcker'S hotel and registered. There be lived for five or six days, and then returned to the senate apparently in his usual health. The senator has a handsome residencs out on Massachusetts avenue whic- is noted among other things for its private stairway by which the senator's favortie dog climbs from his kennel to the senator's sena-tor's library. The senator's family was away for the summer, and the front door and windows win-dows were barred over with boards. On the boards which covered the main entrance en-trance was painted the sign, in big black letters, "Electric Alarm." Nobody knows what it meant, for there were no wires or other signs of an alarm contrivance. contriv-ance. Cor. Chicago Herald. |
