Show MISCELLANY. One of the dancers in a theatre in Berlin was found dead in her' bed and it was supposed that she had committed commit-ted suicide, but a post-mortem examination examin-ation showed that sho died from heart failure, due to tight lacing. The liver of the unfortunate young woman was horribly deformed and crushed out of shaue. Henry Edick of St. Joseph, Mich., celebrated his 105th birthday lately. He was a drummer boy in 1812, going to the front with his father. Ho was born in Doerfiold, Conn., June 28, 1783, and moved to St. Joseph on the 0'Jth anniversary anni-versary of his birth. Mr. Edick has sca.cely a gray hair among his plentiful locks, and is remarkably preserved. A lady of Bremen, Maine, has a parrot par-rot aud also a cat named Shag. Sho has taught the parrot to spell c-a-t, cat, d-o-g, dog, and a few such words, and the other day Polly electrified the household by spelling very loudly and plainly "c-a-t" and then pronouncing it "Shag." Perhaps Polly can't think. Samuel Elliott, of Newbury, claims to have devised an appearance by tho adoption of which the smoke muisance will cease to exist. The process removes re-moves from the products of combustion combus-tion all the black carbonacious matter of cool smoke, and a remarkable, and important thing is the entire absence of sulphur iu tiny form after tho dense volumes of smoke generally seen issuing issu-ing from chiuney shafts have been forcd into the "annihilator." Recent investigations in Indian prisons pris-ons have revealed a curious physiological physiolog-ical condition induced by thieves for the purpose of secreting valuables. They allow a heavy lead bullet to slide down the throat and keep it in position for half an hour at a time. In about a year a pouch is formed into which anything any-thing small may be thrust without in-terl'erriug in-terl'erriug with speech or breath. At present there aro in Calcutta jail twenty prisoners with the throat pouches. A novel and striking enterprise is on foot at Vancouver, B.C.. says the West Shore. It is to construct a loO-foot loO-foot avenue along the line of the electric elec-tric railway which connects that citv with New Westminster, and to list! battery bat-tery cars instead of spoiling the beauty of the avenue by poles and wire. Inducements In-ducements will be offered people who will erect nice residences along the lino and thus help to unite the two cities by a beautiful avenue of residences, which will doubtless soon be done. |
