C Wright Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Mary McClin McClin- Lock tock The declaration of sentiment in regard to womans woman's suffrage was signed by some one hundred men and women The sense of the re's res resolution r res- res resolution s- s solution was that woman was the equal of men and was entitled to all the rights of citizenship including including including ing the right to hold property to control her hor wages to have o a voice in the management of her children and the right to vote A similar convention was held in fri Salem Ohio in 1850 In 1852 Kentucky passed a law that any with wilh children of school age might vote for tor or the election of trustees of a school district During the Civil War active effort was suspended suspend cd but with the close of the war the effort for equal suffrage As time went on several states passed laws permitting women to vote ote but the leaders in their the r efforts to secure national recognition of womans woman's right to the ballot The final ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment occur occur- ed cd in August 20 1920 |
