Editor Timks: Will you kindly per-mit me to express through your columns my feelings of thanksgiving toward Borne of the people of this fair city. The Daughters of liebckah have just made complete returns of the enter-tainment given by them for my benefit, aud the net proceeds, $310.75, have been turned over to help me on the re-covery of my sight. l"or this I am truly thankful. That the Daughters of Rebekah, aux-iliary as they are to tho Odd Fellows' fraternity, should do so much for a stranger, and one entirely outside of the order may seem to sonio like a high personal compliment to me, but I re-gard it as a truo exemplification of their noblo order, and a practical dem-onstration of the work they are doing for humanity. To me the Daughters of Rebekah of Salt Lake are stars of the lirst magni-tude in a hright and heavenly constel-lation. I am particularly grateful to Mrs. Dr. S. Ewing, past noble grand of the Daughters of Rebekah, who was the lirst of these devoted women to meet me and become interested in this at-tempt to restore sight to tho sightless. To the ladies and gentlemen who so generously volunteered their services on tho stage, to the gentlemen who donated the theater, gas aud coal, and to the press of the city for their many kindly notices, I am deeply grateful. I also wish to return my sincere thanks V.lleber J. Graut and other prominent .Mormons fur many favors to one not of their faith, and I am es-pecially thankful to Messrs. Westertield & Crismon for the inuuiticent gift cf $300 worth of notes and a deed for our homo in this city. 1 fully realize the many great difficul-ties of the operatiou before me, and know that I may be disappointed in the results, but a letter from one who has had it performed successfully renews ami strengthens my hope. I have much to do yet beforo I can go to have tho operation performed, but I shall not give it up. Believing that by the mercy of God and the skill of those physicians I may some time be aisle to show my gratitude in a more substantial manner, I sub-scribe myself, most gratefully. Frank I'. Hesun. Carson Appeal: There are a few million fish at the end of Washoe lake, entirely land locked. They are being rapidly destroyed by cranes and peli-cans, and if not taken away by parties who wish to stock their own private ponds they will soon be gone. The water is not over a foot deep, and un-less a storm sets in, raising the lake high enough to release them, they will be packed in the ice the firt cold" snap, but not shipped. Perch and white fish seem to prevail. Winnemucca Silver State: Iluvn-bold- t lake is literally alive with water fowl. There are thousands of ducks, mostly of tho eanvassback and mallard varieties, along the shore, besides a good sprinkling of geese, swans and pelicans. Silver State: Large flocks of sheep, belonging to J. C. Taylor, are being driven down the Humboldt on their return from the northern part of the state. Feed is plentiful along the val-ley this year.
