Rich-ards, wife of Charles K Richards, a cartridge mauufaetures of Bridgeport, Couu., jumped from a fourth-stor- y window iu the Hygienic Institute at Geneva aud was killed. Miss Herendou, her nurse, made a determined effort to save here, dinging to Mrs. Richards' night dress for about three minutes while she whs suspended on the outside fifty feet from the ground. Mrs. Richard's had been a guest at the institute for about three months, and at times had shown signs of mental derangement. As a precautionary measure, the nurse slept in the room with her. Miss Hcr-emlo- n was awakened by Mrs. Richards removing some house plants from the w indow sill. As she was about to spring from the window the nurse grabbed hold, of her night dress. The folds of the garment gave way before the cries for help were answered. When Mrs. Richards was picked up she gasped: "Don't take me in; let me die." She lived but a short time. The Strauss orchestra will tonight open the uew and magnificent Amusement Tem-ple w hich has been erected on the site of the old Madison Square Garden. Tho building Is a combination of huge am-phitheater and a beautiful hall that can bo used either as a concert hall or ti theater. The mush; hall occupies the Madison avenue end, ami the great, am-phitheater covers the rest of the urea clear to the Fourth avenue walls. Tho amphitheatre is n monster enclosure HCi feet long and '.00 feet wide, capable of seating 13.000 persons. It has an arched roof of plated glass uud a track a tenth of a mile with permanent seating ca-pacity of 0000, including 1.10 boxes. Tho amphitheatre is so constructed that it is practically free of columns and can be changed readily into a line summer garden, tho glass roof being so j Imilt that it can ' be rolled off by ma-chinery. The concert hall adjoiding the amphitheatre is 110 feet long by 130 wide, with a seatiug capacity of nearly 8000. The hall is modeled after the Wagner theatre at Hayrcuth. Adjoin-ing the music hall is an observation tower. The musiu hall and amphi-theatre are regarded as tw o of tho finest specimens of their classes in the world. The total cost of the structure is $3,003,-000- . The estimated iinuual expense of l mining the enterprise is $00,030, and the estimated income is I'J.W.OOO.
