Show Tobacoo Exports In 1889. The exports of leaf tobacco and cigarettes cigar-ettes from the United States during the year 1889 were quite satisfactory as to quantity. Although larger quantities of leaf hare boon exported . in previous years, yet there is a material increase over the year 1888. The exports of leaf tobacco for 1889 amounted to 353,509,681 pounds, as compared com-pared with 204,184,021 pounds in 1888, an increase of 48,825,000 pounds, yet ths value of the 1888 exports is put at $3,-300,000 $3,-300,000 more than the exports of 1889, something improbable; this discrepancy is undoubtedly due to the crude method of compiling these statistics. The exports ex-ports of cigarettes for the year 1889 were 274,699,000, as compared with 207,076,000 in 1888, indicating an increase of 67,623.-000. 67,623.-000. This is the largest amount exported in one year, and evidences what rapid Btrides are being made in the export business busi-ness by our cigarette manufacturers, as their exports in 1889 aggregated about 12 per cent, of their manufacture for home consumption.
