A resolution granting I j the Salt Lake Rapid Transit company a franchise to lay tracks on Seventh and Ninth East, south of the city limits, was adopted. A petition from (ieorge M. Cannon and thirty-three others, asking for a franchise for a street railway on Seventh Sev-enth aud Ninth Kast streets, was read and placed on tile. Jacob S. Boreman, commissioner of schools, suggested to the court that the new school law requires free schools throughout tho territory for the coming school year, beginning with July 1, and recommended that the court should at once designate the amount of a second tax in order to insure schools to be held. Mr. Horcniaii thought the assessment assess-ment should be fixed at two mills. |
