LABOR KfcWS, The Cigaruiaker' Strike l'rolmlily Sue- - eriMful. St. Lou. June 12. The eigarniak-ers- ' strike will undoubtedly be settled in a very short time. Out of 1:10 shos in the city which employed members of tho uuiou 10i have already adopted the new price list. Several more will fol-low suit today. The number of strik-ers at present does not exceed 100. Yesterday, the day set for tho adop-tion ot" the new price list, was a very uneasy one for the wholesale manufacturers. Their employes re- - ported for duty at the usual time. They at once went to work at the bench'. Shortly before 4t o'clock the chairman of each shop committee waited upon the foreman and received his answer to tho demand. When the demand was refused or no positive reply given, the chairman gave tho signal for tho men to slop working. They theu packed their tools, cleared tho bunches and walked out of tho shop, proceeding at once to the headquarters in the Labor Bureau. Where the price list was adopted there was no difficulty. All of the men iu those places continued working, with tho exception of the chairmen, who had beou instructed to report the situations iu their shops to the president, of the uuiou at U o'clock. The headquarters was a scene of ac-tivity ami rustle during the entire day. Tho first crowd of strikers arrived them shortly after 7 o'clock. They numbered about twenty. A few min-utes later a crowd of about ten men arrived. They were greeted with a volley of cheers. From that time on a steady stream of strikers poured in un-til almost noon. Promptly at It o'clock a mass meeting of the shop chairmen was held. Tho situation was then made known to the men, most of whom were congregated on the sidewalks. It proved to bo very favorable to them. Shortly afterward word was received that a manufacturer, who employed about twenty hands, and who had re-fused to grant the demand, had recon-sidered his refusal, lie was willing to adopt the new list. His men at once left tho crowd and returned to work. This news was followed by concessions by several oilier manufacturers. Some who did not grant the demand sent word that they had reconsidered their refusals, and would return a positive answer today or tomorrow. It was thou decided by the cigar makers not to make known the names of those un-decided manufacturers until a dclinitu answer had been received. The smaller manufacturers employing from three to live men. are tho one's who have posi-tively refused to adopt the list. They claiiii that if they adopt it they would lose money. A muss meeting w as held last evening by the cigar makers in their headquart-ers. A large, number were present. The situation was made know n to all. YESTERDAY'S STURM.
