If want to they pet him let them poke their lingers at him aud smilingly say, "Dess laff a little bit for oos an'tie " or something of that sort. This latter plan is much better than tossing him up and letting him fall, which is likely to break him in two. As regards the hours he should sleep, nothing can be said. He will probably regulate that matter himself. And he will wake up just when it pleases him, no matter if the fire has gano out and the mercury is away down near Cairo. There is no stated rule to apply to the matter, none whatever. This, dear Esmy, is all at present. There are a few other matters, but they always adjust themselves, so I need no't speak of them. Ogden's Future Greatness as a Commercial Center and a Health Resort, WHAT IS BEING ACCOMPLISHED. The Ogden Power Company, the 0. E. Mayne Company, and the Bethesda Hot Springs. The city of Ogden, nestling as it does between two rivers at the foot of the AVasateh range, would command the attention of any 0110 possessed wilh a particle of sentiment and with an eye for the beautiful. From the eastern portion of the city, called the Bench, and which is devoted to private resi-dences, the view is one of the grainiest within human conception. Over the roofs of the lovely city, stretching as far as the eye can see, aud with the western sun glinting its peaceful bosom, is visible a panoramic view of the Great Salt Lake, with tower-ing islands, stauding like great sentinels arising from its depths, dotted hero and there over iU surface. It is a soeue of which the spectator never wearies, and which has no equal in all the world. Turning to the westward the visitor be-holds the rugged cliff's and canyons of the Wasatch range, whoso peaks rise skyward, piercing the clouds at an elo- - These waters are clear as crystal and constantly changing, and as cool as when found singing for the delectation of the sprites w ho dwell in the ingles aud mighty chasms of inaccessibility, far away in the fastnesses of the moun-tains. The Ogden canyon breeze are among the blessings of the valley of the great inland salt sea of America, and uowhere can their delicious effects be felt to greater advantage than where the hotel will be erected. Ami nowhere in America can the eye of the most critical tourist look out upon a grander scene from his hotel than here. The river that will supply the lake is one of the famous trout streams of the continent; therefore the location will afford an op-portunity for boating, fishing and general pleasure ami recuperation that can scarcely fail to appeal to the invalid aud the hcalthv alike. The proximity of the Great Salt Lake, a little west of the western limits of the city, and the nearness of the snow belt of tho mountains lends to the air deli-cious buoyancy and tonic qualities.' The site is soon to be connected with a boulevard leading to the shore of the lake, w here a hotel with' the right man in command will do a business that will soon make his fortune. The boulevard will extend from the Grent Salt Lake to tho hotel and up Ogden canyon; making in all the grandest drive in America of about twenty miles, and commanding a view throughout its entire length tliat cannot lie surpassed in tho world. An electric street rail-way system will soon connect the place with the business center of Ogden, by u ride of ten minutes, and reaching the Salt Lake in a half hour. The company controlling this splen-did property want to enlist some out-side capital in tho enterprise. Lands sufficient for parks and buildings will bo given. All that is wanted is tho right man, or men, who knows how to turn the chances at hand to advantage. Properly handled aud advertised, all transcontinental tourists would bo pat-rons of tho plaee. It is doubtless a fact that if tho hotel be properly conducted, tho patronage of Utah would bo suffici-ent to make it a succoss, and certainly there could be no chaneo of failure with tho great world adding its help. This portion of Mr. Mayne's enter-prises is separate from cither of the companies named, and is Controlled by himself and a few personal frieuds. The erection of a building, which (will afterwards become a portion of, the grand hotel, to contain a restaurant, a bar, bathrooms and apartments, 'all of elegant ami modern design, will be begun at once, and by June 15lh will be in operation. Parties who may be-come interested in this niagniiieent project can address O. ' E. Mayne, Ogden, Utah. ' , vation of 10,000 feet above sea level and 0000 feet above the railway track at its feet. Tho line of this rango runs north and south, and its magnilieence must bo seen to be appreciated. But it is not of Ogden's beauty that tho writer now has to do. In this prac-tical age everything runs to utility, and it is Ogden's situation as a great com-mercial center, as well as a pleasure re-sort, that demands present attention. The advantages of the city with regard to commerce cannot be On the north is the Ogden river, aud on tho south flows tho Weber, never failing streams of sufficient volume to furnish unlimited power. The peculiar position occupied by Ogden assures a future for the city as enviable as it is practical.. The nearest manufacturing centers lie over a thousand miles away in the far east; aud when it is consid-ered that there are vast states all around Ogden which demand a supply depot for every necessary, luxury and comfort of human life, it may bo con-ceived how a niagniiieent city can spring up here, full fledged in its ability to supply these wnnts-au- to deliver 'them at the very doors of the needy. Ogden has tire great trunk railway ter-minals," and more coming, by means of which rapid communication with California, Oregon, Washington, Mon-tana, the Dakotas,' Nevada, Wyom-ing, Colorado, Idaho and Southern Utah is maintained. Consequently with great industries once established, Ogden would command tho trade of all this magnificent empire. C. E. Mayne came to Ogden and was deeply impressed with tho possibilities of the city for future grandeur. Mr. Mayne is a gentleman of great experi-ence in succesfiil eily building, and it is chiefly to his enterprise and shrewd-ness that Omaha is indebted for what-ever of greatness the city enjoys. Mr. Mayne at once set to work to build up Ogden as ho had built up Omaha. He organized and put upon its feet the Ogden Power company, a scheme now Hearing completion and which will give Ogden electrical power more than sufficient for all demands. This com-pany has a capital ol $250,000. Mr. Mayne has also organized tho C, E Mayne company, a bureau of infor-mation as well as an investment assscia-tion- , designed to take tho place of a board of trade, with its numerous de-partments, and to afford investors a reliablo corporation through which they can place their capital. This com-pany includes every business man in Ogden, and has a capital of $100,000. .Situated within two ami a half miles of the city are the celebrated Bethesda Hot Springs. They bubble forth from mother earth within the mouth of the famous Ogden Canyon, and immediately on the eastern confines of the city. The following is an analysis of the Bethesda Hot Springs water, located near the mouth of Ogden canon and at the eastern boundary of the city: Lime carinate M iijmesia carbonate "l Silica ;t J Iron.. In 1000 parts water-he- ld iu solution by car-bonic acid. Lime sulphate fjnlcum chloride.... MiiKnesium chloride Potassium chloride J? Sodium chloride ? The medicinal properties of the wa-ters, that burst hot from the sides of the Wasatch mountains, have for more than forty years been famous for heal-ing among the people of Utah, and their general sanitary qualities are gladly recognized by the healthy who have tried them for purposes of the bath. The springs are sujierbly located for a health resort or a hotel, that com-bines the healing of the sick and the entertainment of the general public. The situation commands one of the finest panoramas in America, com-posed of mountain, cily'and valley, w ith Great Salt Lake as the central figure; a scene difficult of description and one altogether pleasing. At the mouth of this canyon and in the immediate purview of the site for the hotel will be a large and beautiful lake, formed. by the construction of a dam to partly confine the waters of the Ogden liver. The lake will rover an area of 60 acres. It will lie fed by the sweetest and purest waters of the great Rockies, gushing fresh from the melting of perennial snows and eternal springs j in tic very npart ol tbo Wasatch range. I Many people have expressed aston-ishment at the fact that the Prince of Wales speaks German with perfect fluency The truth is that his command of English is the surprising tiling. In the. royal nursery German was spoken until Albert Edward was twelve years of age. The prince is also in thorough commaud of French. Tho lato George H. Boker, the Phila-delphia poet, was pronounced in his youth by N. P. Willis, who spoko with authority, to be the handsomest man in America. His intimate friend, Charles Godfrey Leland, says that tho busts of Byron were remarkably like Boker, though Boker was the liner looking.and in figure much more imposing.
