Show THE KEI'OKT AUK FALSE. President Adams or the I nlon Paclllc Out With it Denial. The reports that have been going the rounds lor the past few days to the effect that important changes may be looked for in the management of the Union Pacific system are denied by President Adams, in an interview had with him in Portland yesterday hes tid: "That article was' inspired by an olhcial wlio recent ly left the service. The story is entirely unwarranted. Messrs. Holcomb, Ames and myself came over the road from Omaha to Portland, and both track and rolling slock were found in very good condition, condi-tion, considering the severity of the winter. No changes are contemplated in the officials of the Pacific division. The recent changes were necessary to insure harmony." Kach day witnesses an immense interest in-terest among tlie capitalists aud public spirited men of Salt Lake city in tlie determination to make this point the terminus of the Pacific Short Line now in course of construction from Sioux City, la. The new road is backed by brains and capital, and is also receiving receiv-ing support and encouragement from the principal trunk lines east of the Hig Muddy anxious for a coast outlet. Beginning with tomorrow the Wabash Wa-bash railroad will make a $8 rate from St. Louis to Omaha, and a $0 rate to Chicago, while Kansas city round trips will be sold Jfor $2. Other roads are actively cutting to St. Paul and Denver. A number of excursionists arrived in the city this morning from Denver and Kansas city. The Wasatch branch of the Rio Grande Western opened for traffic this morning. For tlie present trains will run between Salt Lake and Wasatch every alternate week day namely, Monday, Mon-day, Wednesday and Saturday. Later in the season when the tramway between be-tween Wasalch and Alta is completed trains will run daily. |
