Tho reviv al meetings to be conducted by Nam Small in Urn basement of tho Methodist church will open this even-ing. Night before last the Liberal band called at tho residence of Mayor KiescI and serenaded him in honor of his forty-nint- h birthday. Attorneys Painter and John D. Mur-phy will defend T. S. Todd, who will ; go on trial May 2H to answer to the charge of killing Pat Desmond. Tho edict of tho police to the tough fraternity to seek pastures now has had i its salutary effect. There has been a ; cleaning out of tho undcsirablo classes. ' It is stated that mon with capital and experience have organized for tho ptir-- J ose of conducting beef and pork pack- 's ng establishments ut tho south Ogden ; lock yards. i A judgment amounting to $12,000 was renncreu against ine oouiuurax a- - 'ifio railroad by a jury yesterday in favor of William Browu, who lost his left hand while in the employ of the company. Tho funeral of the late Samuel Ca-- hoou took place yesterday afternoon from tho residence of his son. Tho ob-sequies were largely attended, and tho anany excellent qualities of the deceased "were dwelt upon. The board of medical examiners met yesterday afternoon, and selected Dr. "lirick for chairman. .Resolutions for the regulation of tho organi-jy.atio- n were adopted, and hereafter all .physicians intending to locate in Ogden ' will have to qualify before tho exam-iners. AMUSEMENTS. WILSON BAKRKTT IN "THE 8ILVEK KING" AT THE THEATEIi. Peoplo were turned away last evening at tho Salt Lake theater after half past eight, there not bebig even standing room for the many who desired to see Mr. Narrott in his great part ot'Wilfred Donver and who were unable to get seats. Every inch of room was utilized by such an atidieneo as always delights a manager and brings pleastiro to the actors. Mr. Barrett's Wilfred Denver is the, perfect renditition of u very pop-ular character, and as on the previous evening. Harrett tho actor was lost sight of in tho character ho represented. It is beyond almost everything else very satisfactory to tho onlooker to note the careful man-ner in which Mr. Barrett attends to, the smallest and most trilling iuattnr of detail while on tho stage. Tho eut'of a coal, the fashion of a hat, the style of a gloveall these are but little things not noticed by the average theater-goer- , but they are a part of the artistic whole to a man like Wilson Barrett, who is nothing if ho be not an artist, and he never fails in the appropriateness of his make up and his stage settings. His acting, too, is just as it should lie, and shows the result of careful study and a full understanding of tho impersona-tion ho undertakes. There is no surer indication of gen-ius in an actor than the ability ho dis-plays to draw his audience with him In the scenes ho is spreading before them, making them forgetful of all save what they see and hear, and causing them to become participants in a drama that for them, for the time being, is a reality. This Mr. Barrett does without an apparent effort, and from the moment he stops upon the stage until the curtain falls at the close those who are spectators are in earnest sympathy with every motion he makes and every word ho utters. Last even- - ing at one time the audience was com-pletely carried away, and a scene of such wild enthusiasm ensued as has sel-dom, if ever, been witnessed on a, simi-lar occasion iu Salt Lake. For fully live minutes cheers rent tho air, should drowned all other sounds and many a kid glove was irretrievably ruined and palms blistered iu tho endeavor to lend emphasis to tho admiration which the peoplo felt for the great actor. Again was Mr. Barrett most ably sup-ported, and the drama passed off with-out tho suggestion of ii flaw. Tonight will bo given " which will close tho Barrett engagement. Cleveland's minstrels at the ukakd. Peoplo never seem to weary of good minstrelsy, and last evening another tine audience assembled at the Grand to lose present identity in tho enjovint lit of good singing ami funny situations. Tho bones of Mr. Willis P. Sweatnam is a source of constant merriment, and with the assistance of Lou Soniers and Billy Kice, Sweatnam tnauages to make some very laughable points. As a singer of comic songs Mr. Swealnam is unrivaled, never failing to convulse his hearers by the ludicrous uature of his song and the ridiculous fa-cial contortions ho indulges in. ' Billy Kice is Sweatmim's twin brother on the minstrel stage, and these two are suflicient hi themselves to keep good humor uppermost and hilarity moving. Tho Japanese acrobatic and trick performance, which winds p the en-tertainment each evening, is wonder-ful, especially the antics of the two lit-tle follows who aro tossed about 'by Hheir elders as .though they were balls. The tight rope dancing was also very lino. There was a matinee performance this afternoon, which was well attended by ladies and children. The Clevolands will hold tho boards of the Grand all tho week. IIOUSKKEEPEKS'GUIOK. A Complete List of Salt Lake Itetall Prlcrf Corrected Dally. , BE KE Sirloin, roast.ll., $ .lrifi.'JO Ullm.
