A Postponement of the Carter-Hiles Divorce Di-vorce Suit Grace Hawthorne in London Other Specials. Louisville, Ky., May 5. Special At the meeting of the general assembly today, John A. Morris, representing tho Louisiana Lottery company whose charter char-ter expires in 1895, submitted a proposition propo-sition for its renewal. By the terms of the proposal tho lottery company is to pay the state $12,500,000 for the right to maintain a lottery for a period of twenty-five years. Oue-third of this sum goes in block to supplement the pubiio school fund of the state, one-third one-third goes to tho support of charitable institutions, and the balauce goes to tho levee system of the stato. Tho question now is, shall the legislature submit this proposition to the people to be voted on at the general election in 1802? The anti-lottery league has organized its work and is prepared to wage a bitter and unrelenting war against the lottery scheme. |
