Interviews wllh thorn show that-tho that-tho lottery is losing, while'lhe antis are gaining ground each day. A week ago the antis could count but half a dozen senators out of thirty-six. To-day twelve are conceded them. Senator Barrow, of West Feliciana Parish, died last week. He had announced his intention in-tention of voting for the lottery. The antis will elect his successor. Senator Bohan left on Monday for Richmond, Va for the unveiling of the Lee statue, and report says from there he will go to Europe. He was committed to neither side, but his absence will count against the lottery, as a two-thirds voto is required. The death of Benator Barrow Bar-row and the absence of Senator Behan reduces the senate to thirty-four and makes it almost certain that Senator Foster's resolution to investigate the charge of bribery against the lottery will pass. If 'the resolution passes some people will leavo Lonisana in a hurry. The legislature stands today as follows: House lottery, 55; anti-lottery, 88; uncounted, un-counted, 8; seats vacant, 2. Senate lottory, 15; anti-lottery, 12; uncounted, 6; seats vacant, 1; absent, 1; necessary to pass the bill, 24. |
