Patti once sang In the tabernacle, and demonstrated that its acoustic powers are very fine. The Gardo House,' or Amelia Palace, was built bv Brighara Young who willed that it should l the residence of his favorite wife. Amelia Kolsom Young, but since his death it has been used as the official residence o dignitaries of the church. , Krighatn Young's Residences, known as the e and the Lion House are structures, curious from as-sociations. These are situated in what was once Brlgham Young's domain, all of which has passed into other hands, save the large lot in which is Brigham Young's Grave. This can be reached by passing through the Eagle Gate, an archway in the old mud wall Which at one time encompassed Brigham's pri vate property. One or two of the prophet's wives repose beside his last resting place. A slab of granite covers the grave and there is space left near by for the graves ot his other wives. Deseret Museum, This institution is situated on South Temple street, directly opposite Temple square. It contains a large number of interesting curltis-ltles- , chiefly pertaining to the early history of Utah. It is well worth a visit. Prospect Hill jwlth its lookout tower commands a splendid view of the city and its surroundings. The Tithing BuUdlng possesses interest as being the general depot for taxes collected by the Mormon church from its disciples. Liberty Park, In the southeastern portion of the city is a beautiful resort and can be reached by rapid transit trains. The Chamber of Commerce, on Second South street, is visited by those who take an Interest in the commercial standing of the city. There are several large cases con-taining specimens of Utah's mineralogy which attract much attention. The Grand Opera Honse, on Second South street, is under able manage-ment, and is handsomely and comfortably fitted up. Some of the best talent In the coun-try is constantly passing between the Atlantic arid the Pacific, and Salt Lake City is always made a stopping place for performances, either the opera house or the , , . Salt Lake Theater ' being selected. This latter place of amuse-ment was built by Brigham Young over thirty years ago. It is a large and beautiful temple and is comfortably arranged. Assembly Hall, near the temple, is used in winter for worship by the Mormons, the tabernacle being too large to admit of proper heating. Assembly hall is 1S0x68 feet, and cost 1160.000. The ceiling is dec-orated with church pictures, among them the Angel Moroni disclosing the hiding place of the golden plates to Joseph Smith. The Natatorhim is a large circular bathing house, the center of which, under a glass roof, is a swimming pool. The water is brought in pipe from Beck's Hot Springs. There are also a large number of bath rooms. Electric Street Cars connect with every point of interest in the city. The system is new and the appointments good. Rapid transit is assured. Camp Douglas, three miles east of the city and over 400 feet above it, is beautifully laid out in the midst of lawns and orchards, and the barracks and houses of the officers are built of stone. The post commands a wide view of the city and beyond where Great bait Lake lies like molten silver at the foot of the western mountains. Heck's Hot Springs are in the northern part of the city about three miles from the business center. They issue from the base of the mountains, and are regarded as a very valuable aid In cases of rheumatism, dyspepsia and scrofula. The waters are used both in-ternally and externally, and there is an excellent bath house and necessary appointments for the oomfort of patients. The Warm Sulphur Springs . are between the Hot Springs and the city, about one mile from the postofrice. There is a good hotel and comfortable bath house in connec-tion with the springs, and they can be reached by street railway. The Mountains are unsurpassed in magnificent canyons, and at least a dozen of the grandest are within reach of the city. These invite tbe tourist to suend days, weeks or months among their wild recesses to fish, to hunt, to scale the peaks and ridges, and to gather wild flowers by the sides of mossy springs, beneath the shade of umbrageous pines. Big Cottonwood canyon should be seen by every tourist. Here are lake Mary and Martha from which flows tbe turbulent Cottonwood river; and at the base of the mountains are lakes Blanche, Florence and Lillian. Besides these are Mills creek, Parley's, Emigration, and City Creek canyons, all extremely picturesque and delightfully romantic. Pleasant Drives abound in scores around the outskirts of the cUv; along the quiet, country roads, and through the lanes dividing meadows of rich ereen alfalfa and fields of grain: while the majestic mountains are never entire y lost slant of From under the branches of trees and above hedges of the wild dog-ros- e are caught, of snow.covered peaks.
