Show Sarah Moss Niece of First Settler of Bountiful Dies I Sil Sister ter Sarah Phebe Sessions Mess was born rn on Nov 26 1858 1853 in Bountiful Utah She Sho was the daughter of Phebe Carter Foss and David Sessions I She was educated in the schools of Bountiful with the exception of 2 years during which time time- she at- at attended at attended tended a private school in Salt I at-I Lake City known aa as the School or of Aunt Lizzie Fox Later she taught for one year in Bountiful In 1871 Sister Sarah tau taught ht what was known as the class in Sunday school at the time C R Jones was superintendent She married Joseph Moss Dec 18 13 1871 in the Endowment house housein housein in Salt Lake City They y moved to Woods Cross Croas where they have since resided They were the parents par- par I eats of nine children two of whom have av preceded their mother in death Sister Moss loss was always very de- de dependable dependable de dependable and was one of the first to neighbors bors be called to the homes of h hors bors and friends in case of sick sick- sickness ness At the age of 15 she had a avery avery avery very experience that or of washing and laying out a corpse alone for the first time While Sister Moss was wa still in her early youth her mother Wa was president of the Relief society and she being the eldest child had to help lp her make most of the burial clothes which were all made by hand as sewing machines were a great luxury in those da days s 's and very few were available When the wards were divided in 1881 Bishop Brown called Sister Moss to go o to the home of Sister in Salt Lake City to get t the pattern for the temple suits At that time she saw aw and handled the patterns that the Prophet Joseph Smith had given Sister Kimball She then cut out and helped make the first 24 tem tern temI tempIe temple pIe suits that were used by the I priesthood in their prayer circle Sh She was always a very active L D S church worker having satisfactorily fulfilled many im- im important im important portent church offices From 1877 to 1891 she was secretary of the theY theY theY Y L M I A She was a coun coun- counselor coun- coun counselor in Ithe the Primary from 1884 until 1892 The secretary of Relief so society for about 14 14 years after which she was made a counselor from 1911 to 1916 She also serve served as a Relief society te teacher ch r for about 20 years I Ir Jr she was 1916 wasl honorably released from public offices due to ill he health I Sister Moss was always loved lo and respected by everyone she came in contact with and was a tender living Jiving mother She was B a loyal and devoted companion to tohei her hei husband for over 61 years and no tribute however great could do her justice She ended her her active and eventful career at her home nome March 4 1933 Funeral services were held Wed Wednesday afternoon in the South Bountiful chapel Bishop E T THatch Hatch in charge The speakers were John E Hatch Patriarch Israel Call Henry W Stahle Stable and Bishop Hatch The opening prayer was by J I Atkinson benediction by Stearns Steams Hatch and Amos Cook dedicated the grave ave in the tho Bountiful Bountiful ful ul cemetery The ward choir un- un under un under der the direction of Mrs Ida Hatch rendered the opening and closing numbers duet by John and Joseph Wood of whom also rendered solos I |
