Show Nobody's Fault but His Own O if Man Fails in inThis inThis This Modern Life By BISHOP B n F P IVINS If a man misses his mark in life lire you can be sure it is his own mm fault This in spite of the so-called so psychology of which we have been hearing so much of late telling us that we are absolutely fLied fixed by what our inheritance and environment have hae made us and that if we knew perfectly what a mans man's environment and inheritance were we could plot his mental reaction and rind how he would respond to any given stimulus This kind ofa of a theory is nonsense The psychologists psychologist are beginning to acknowledge it as nonsense Men do not act that way way Man is responsible responsible responsible sible if he fails to come up to the mark Man is a free agent i in theo theo- theological theo theo- theological theological logical terminology he has a free will Sin is i nothing more than missing the mark There are certain overt acts which men generally agree to be sins such as mur murder er stealing ly- ly lying lying ly lying ing Then we seem to catalogue sins sin by degrees and some ome we condone such as divorce cheating in business the diplomatic lie gossip tale bear bear- bearing bearing bearing ing and scan scandal al You cannot classify sin in that way Our Lord never once as far as we have a record condemned an overt act of omis omis- omission omis- omis omission omission sion but he condemns the sins which we today are arc inclined to ignore those of commission Self-examination Self and cleansing of moral wrongs wrongs is the the great need of all Christians |
