comprise the most heavily mineralized portion of that region A heavy growth of large timber arid and numerous streams of pure water add to their scenic beauty while it is possible to drive to any workings on the three devils yet the steep incline of the majestic mountains admits of vast sloping depth to be gained by comparatively short tunnels traversing the west slopes of all three devils are huge contacts beginning at the foothills with granite which is followed in order upward with a belt of quartzite and porphyry then quartz and porphyry mixed with ore and then quartz and limestone this formation striking almost north with the mountain range is crossed and checkered with true fissures of quartz running from top to bottom of the mountains and cutting everything in their path on the north on one of the three devils is the queen of sheba mine and on the south one the jumbo practically all the ground between is embraced by the jessie weimer group on the center one of the three devils the queen of sheba and the jumbo are among among the best known know mines in deep creek the jessie weimer mining alining company incorporated with offices in the commercial building this city controls the jumbo and queen of sheba mines and so holds approximately all territory on the three devils for a mili mile and a half in length arid and a half mile in to the jumbo on the south crosscutting the jessie weimer el group in its course runs a mammoth vein of gold and silver ore two hundred feet wide this lead has already achieved renown for the jumbo and queen of sheba where it has been tapped at both these diggings it has been found to yield handsome values in free milling ore seven dollars per ton were saved on a big mill run of queen of sheba quartz most of the operations at the jumbo have been confined to shallow shafts and short inclines and tunnels about the surface designed to discover the true course of the vein in their prospecting maneuvers at each point where the ore was wag tapped it was found to carry a uniform value of fifteen dollars gold and silver it should he be taken into consideration that these figures arette are the result of investigations only at the tb e surface that the inevitable increase that follows derth has not yet been determined it should further be borne in mind that every geological trait of that section which chieh can be taken as a criterion indicates that the monster vein will continue true and grow in richness as s it is probed deeper in addition to this mother lode there are several minor leads showing gold on either side of and parallel with it all exposed on the ground owned and controlled by the jessie weimer company with a general strike of north east at right angles coursing from head to foot of the jessie W weimer eimer mountain are everal veins of gold rock varying in size and richness r ich ness the ore of one of these has been found assaying six dollars at the grass grass roots and where it crosses the north and south ledges are chimneys of rich ore systematic V V ORE BIN ON JESSIE WEIMER GROUP development work is progressing steadily on that vein and also on the queen of sheba and jumbo mines where are forces of miners employed by the jesse weimer mining company deep creeks drawback is its remoteness from a railway center that alone can explain why a region of so wonderful a surface showing and such magnificent resources and possibilities is not among the renowned producers this condition promises soon to change three separate railway surveys have been made across the desert from salt lake city and nearby points and all indications of the past year and present time point t ti the speedy advent of an operating line when the railroad rea reaches elkes deep creek the men who are in on the ground floor will take the cream of the profits J B weimer formerly an iron operator in the lake superior country is at the head of the jessie weimer company colonel john meteer is vice
