Show THE manufacture OF FIRE BRICK communicated for several months past there has been great activity in the mining industries of utah and much mining property has been bought and sold and in much ch prospect prospecting ina has been done with the result that new gold silver iron coal copper and lead mines have been discovered and developed to some extent utah abounds in every valuable mineral but railroad facilities and railroad discrimination have stood in the way of progress up to recently but now utah is fast f as t pushing I 1 ahead as a good place for investments hence I 1 write these lines to manufacturers of firebrick etc and suggest this state as a splendid field for investment for this ranch branch of industry about half a million firebrick have been used every year in the state but now fully five times that number will be required to meet the demand for nearly every mine in this intermountain inter mountain region utah nevada idaho montana eastern oregon and eastern washington will build its own mill and reduction works and large and expensive smelters shelters sm elters are located near the city and several dewones new ones are now contemplated firebrick from west virginia sell at 90 per 1000 from the ohio country at 82 from nebraska at 65 and from colorado at 45 every manufacturer looking at these figures will readily see the profits he can make by locating his factory here there are some very fine and extensive deposits of fire clay suitable for firebrick and pure silica 0 or o fire sand close to the city and good roads where ample room for milling and kiln purposes water etc can be secured teams T eams can make two trips a day in winter and three in summer to the depots and return with good machinery and presses firebrick could be made very cheap this branch of industry is as good as the best and better than most gold and silver mines fireclay Fire clay finds a ready sale at 15 to 18 and silica fire refi sand at 12 to 15 the city will probably use firebrick for paving 11 the streets as these pavements pavement shave have proved so satisfactory in many places such as wheeling west virginia etc some of this fireclay fire clay has been thoroughly tested in a railroad foundry where it stood the high test of plus 1800 deor degrees 11 rees fahrenheit and was found to be sound after drawing the question then presents itself why with material in abundance and of the first quality near at hand the making 5 of firebrick should not become an important industry in salt lakel lake the announcement is made that two enterprising ter salt lakers richter and young have just secured a twelve months option on 7 1780 acres of valuable placer ground in larimer county colorado and also on acres of placer ground in caran county 9 wyoming |
