cole and thomas ovens are improving the huckleberry claim in st kevin district and they 1 expect to do a lot of work there during the coming summer A shaft has been sunk to f z a depth of feet and a tunnel will now ibe be driven to connect with the old workings t which were abandoned several years ago the tunnel is now in the hill a distance of nearly 1000 feet and at the point where the shaft connects with the tunnel a considerable sid erable amount of sinking will be done i there is ore in sight to start with and the owners of the property are confident of fing ing other veins before the work is continued very far ouray herald J W quinlan has a contract for the lower tunnel of the manganese claim in the ores metals group to a point below the ore shoot encountered in the upper workings he started work this week creaking breaking the trail and taking up the supplies plies rich will have charge of le the financial end of the companas comp anys affairs here in the absence of the manager JT 11 hemler the ore shoot for which the tun liel el is being driven showed 85 in gold in the upper workings A diamond drill to prospect is also in contemplation and w will ill probably be installed this summer with a view to determining the route of a develop ment tunnel from below leadville democrat george stevens who is leasing on the penrose recently opened a nice body of iron ore and he is now drifting through this with the view of determining whether it will be advisable to open the old midas shaft and remove it through there the body is nearer the midas than the penrose and it would be more economical to take the ore out through gla there however it would be necessary to the shaft and install consid considerable erab ae machinery at present he is meeting with more than expected success and the probabilities are that the midas will be reopened fourteen men are employed on the lease and fifty tons per day are being shipped ouray herald current report has it that thomas F walsh is contemplating coming to ouray this year to do development work on some promising properties in which he is interested As mr walsh has always been considered a good man to have operating in the camp it is very gratifying to our business men to contemplate the coming of such a progressive and capable mining man one of the properties mentioned as being one to which mr walsh will turn his attention is the hidden treasure in the sneffels els district at one time this was quite a notable property and gives promise of becoming a producer under systematic development the great camp bird is its neighbor denver republican attorney john T bottom returned yesterday from a business trip to cripple creek and victor he states that there is a splendid feeling prevailing in the cripple creek district the output of the district for february was and it is expected to make it for the present month 1 I found everywhere in the district a very optimistic feeling said mr batom yesterday the business men miners and everyone interested in the sue success of the camp are now very well pleased with the outlook and both mining and property values are looking up at present men are returning to the district where the output is certain there is no question but that the cripple creek district is the greatest gold camp in the world and this fact is becoming recognized more the beauty of the thing is in its demonstration that values continue with depth attained one set of leasers leaders on the 1000 foot level has a good sized vein of ore good for over twenty one ounces ounce s gold per ton and another set on the level made a shipment as the result of a few days work denver news there is great joy in golden over what appears to be positive assurance that the golden smelter is to be opened again within a very short time this time the m management management ana gement will not lay itself liable to batt battle le from the smelter trust as the plant is to be used exclusively for treating ores fram one mine which is under the same management as the smelter john owen manager of the saratoga mine in the idaho springs district has long had his eye on the golden plant and resolved to make use of it just as soon as the Sara togas output would warrant within the past week a remarkable strike has been made in the saratoga lateral of the newhouse tunnel said to be one of the best ever made in the district distri cf with a vein of such width as to insure an immense amount of ore for years to come manager owen and a number of other prominent mining men of the idaho springs district have been in golden the past few days and today authorized a number of general repairs about the local plant and a big force of men is to be put at work in the morning |
