Show THE DELMAS COPPER COMPANY encouraging reports received from this promising nevada property P D delmas of salt lake general manager for the delmas copper company operating in lee canyon elko county nevada is much encouraged over recent reports from the companas comp anys property which from all accounts is in a most flourishing condition already in the development of this valuable ground two ledges have been encountered in the main working tunnel one of which is six feet n in width while the other measures three and a half feet the ore averaging close to 14 per cent in its copper contents while silver values run as high as 2114 ounces in silver to the ton ion the officers of the company are J D wood president D P delmas vice president and gen eral manager and W earls secretary and treasurer A recent report made on the property of the delmas copper company by emil boug alez E al and al E reads as follows what I 1 believe will develop into one of the greatest silver copper properties in the state of nevada I 1 have found in the property of the delmas copper company about one year ago this coming june P D delmas at that time superintendent for the henoll mining alining company went into lee canyon pan for the purpose of making an examination of that district and being much impressed with its merit and possibilities resigned his position with the fenoli company and began to operate on his own account in the railroad mining district he first began a series of tunnel work on the sweepstake group of claims and also acquired by location several other claims adjoining this group the work performed on the sweepstake group disclosed great bodies of high grade smelting smelling sm elting ore and work was at once begun in the building of wagon roads for the purpose of hauling the ore to the railroad rai load when shipments were begun to the salt lake smelters shelters sm elters and these shipments were continued until the smelters shelters sm elters refuses to receive ores from any source regardless of this mr delmas has steadily and continuously carried on development work at the mines of the company and has exposed massive bodies of high grade ores carrying copper and silver this property has responded wonderfully to systematic development and in time I 1 am sure wilt will develop into a genuine bonanza geology and formation the geology of the delmas property consists of an intrusion of porphyry lying between lime and limy shale the line of contact is northerly and southerly the limestone on the easterly contact has been altered to a garnet and in this zone the occurs numerous crass cross fissures extending across this mineral belt from the limestone to the porphyry seem to be the source of and the location of the richer ore bodies A the same time there is not a great deal 0 regularity in the occurrence of the ore bod ies as at present developed we find at times fissures extending from the contact into the main lime belt which lies to the east of the garnet these fissures carry large chambers of high grade cuprite and sulphide ores the sweepstake group the sweepstake group owned by the delmas copper company was self sustaining from the start the location of the properties is an ideal one for tunnel sites as a tunnel driven from either side of the range of mountains running easterly and westerly would encounter the main lodge some 90 feet in depth and it would or could be run on ore practically all of the way about two months ago the company began a tunnel on the south side of the mountain this tunnel is now in a distance of about feet and has cut three parallel ledges one of 0 these ledges is more than six feet wide and assays essays ounces silver 14 per cent copper and 35 cents in gold to the ton one of the other ledges is more than two and a half feet in width and carries even richer values the delmas copper company should be able judging from former operations and from up to date developments to produce copper at five cents a pound for a long time to come and for the additional reason that on one place on the property there is an ore body which is feet in width and which is simply a quarry as it stands above the surface for some ten or twelve feet in heigh heights th A sample of ore taken for forty feet on this massive ledge gives an average of 6 per cent copper and 5 ounces in silver to the ton and this is simply the droppings crop pings which have been exposed for years and from which the values in all probability have been largely leached beached out in visiting the holdings of the delmas copper company I 1 have had the pleasure of seeing a property which I 1 do not believe has an equal in nevada for the amount of work done P D delmas general manager for the company is one of those hard work ing men who says but little but who accomplishes great things at his solicitation and accompanied by him I 1 visited the property and spent six days on the ground he has an ideal mining camp which is finely equipped and which has plenty of water and wood for many years to come an old silver camp this district was a silver camp in former years and was operated for silver only two crude smelters shelters sm elters were in operation at bullionville Bulli onville twenty five years ago for the treatment of the ores of this district and the camp has made riches for a good many men prior to the slump in silver companies operating in the district at present time are the delmas copper company the dunker bunker hill mining company and several other organizations whose names I 1 do not remember in my opinion the deli delmas nas copper company takes the lead as to the making of a very large mining property 1 have spent twelve years in mining in old mexico and the property of the delmas copper company impresses me as the making of one of the largest producing properties I 1 have ever examined and numerous eminent mining engineers will corroborate my statement in this respect |
