Show ore in utah amalgamated over in the needle range washington district beaver county utah there has been something doing 0 during the past two months and the indications are that utah can soon boast of a new producer of a new bread winner for the past year the utah amalgamated copper company has been steadily at work in the development of its valuable holdings in this favored locality where mineral blossoms abound on every hand and ali although hough many obstacles to be overcome has been its portion during the winter and spring months success has evidently crowned its efforts and to such an extent that the fact is now fairly well established that the utah amalgamated is a mine and the making of a big one at that in the last issue of the mining review mention was made of the arrival from bos near the mouth of the incline shaft superintendent in everill found a stringer running in horizontally in which there were occasional bunches of good ore following this as a guide a tunnel was started and run in an easterly direction for about forty feet at this point the stringer evidently an offshoot off shoot from the main vein assumed a nearly perpendicular cular position with a northerly and southerly strike disclosing a solid body of ore four feet in width and between well de fined walls and this at the time of the arrival of dr watkins and mr gove had been sunk upon for a depth of about forty feet the pay day mineral taken out filling ore sacks with about an equal amount piled up on the dump and still more broken down in this new glory hold the ore is of fine quality and value and can be taken out in chunks weighing pounds and over the AP allow I 1 fa k ii x L y waif Ww if ma ali fet r 1 n ij il 2 4 X T lower incline shaft where the strike was made ton of dr C E watkins president of the company accompanied by E T gove who has charge of the salt lake office of the company the doctor left immediately for the mine from which he informs us but very little news of an encouraging nature had been received just prior to his departure from boston imagine his surprise therefore upon reaching the camp of the amalgamated to find sacks of fine shipping ore on the dump and general superintendent in T J everill hard at work taking out more from as pretty a four foot vein of shipping material as one could wish to see new strike in amalgamated As stated in previous mention of the utah amalgamated the company had encountered ore in two places on its property one being in the shaft and the other in the lower incline shaft in both oth places however the occurrence of the ore as demonstrated by later development seemed to be i in irregular stringers with no well defined ore bodies in place prospecting size with depth while the indications are that better values are making themselves evident the deeper the is sunk on the ore body the walls are perfect and the sides on the ore next to the walls promise great depth and continuity for the deposit the company has dispatched additional sacks to the mine and a trial shipment may be looked for at almost any time now equip for heavy work in order to develop the new find in a thorough and systematic manner a steam hoisting plant will be installed at the earliest possible moment and a pump will be put in from the end of the tunnel where the new find was made an upraise will be made to the surface the hoist will be located here and the will be the beginning of A a working shaft when some depth is attained the pump will doubtless become a necessity as this is a well watered country and it is best to be prepared for emergencies 41 vr birdseye view of lower incline and upper workings large pieces however being broken in order that the ore may be sacked to advantage samples from the vein were brought in by the doctor upon his return and assays essays made as follows eight per cent lead 7 per cent copper ounces silver and gold sixteen and six tenths per cent lead 77 per cent copper 40 ounces silver and gold nine and seven tenths per cent lead 56 per cent copper and gold these samples were taken from the poorer grade of ore choice samples being rejected and it is stated that the mine run really got the worst of it and yet the showing is a magnificent one the average of the whole four feet showing values of about 11 per cent lead 9 per cent copper ounces silver and in gold to the ton making a product that will stand shipment and at the same time return the company a handsome profit another feature of encouragement connected with the new discovery is the fact that the ore body is gaining in the everill ever ill tunnel work is also progressing rapidly in the driving of the everill working tunnel this is being run for the purpose of cutting the series of parallel veins at a considerable depth it is now in a distance of feet and has already cut a vein which may prove to be of importance if followed into the hill where cut the values were low the assays essays going but ounces silver and thirty five cents in gold to the ton but this was at a comparatively shallow depth the face is now in lime and quartzite and within a reasonable time it should cut the new discovery at right angles on its strike at a depth of from to feet from the surface with these two workings in ore the new find should be opened up extensively and early during the coming season the utah amalgamated should enter the list as a regular and heavy producer the company is now getting in supplies and arrangements are being made for the employment of a force of seven or eight men during the coming winter |
