Show RAILROAD DAY AT searchlight SPECIAL correspondence searchlight nev april 8 A m marked transformation has ha taken place at the terminal of the santa fe railroad since the first whistle of the locomotive announced that the camp without a failure was now connected with the outside world by railroad transportation every sidetrack and spur is crowded with carloads of merchandise machinery and lumber and a few moments spent in watching the dozens of teams relieving the cars of their burdens gives a idea of the great amount of material that is soon to find its way into the fabric of the great mining center at the new townsite a large force of workmen are rushing buildings to completion in a day preparing for the big celebration that is to occur april 12 when the commercial world of the west will be invited to share the hospitality of manager abbott who is making great preparations for entertaining excursionists spacious eating houses natty cottages and store buildings will greet the new arrivals and here they will be given a touch or what searchlight has to offer the stran stranger er within its gates ates I 1 besides the railroad act activities and building advancement the big dairy the first in southern nevada is fast nearing hearing completion and already a large herd of cows are bell beginning ginning to supply the camp with that luxury by railroad day the new town will have assumed the proportions of a small city and with its cement walks new buildings spacious streets and many other innovations will present a businesslike business like spectacle the cle bration planned calls for and varied program including a drive about the camp a banquet and a good time generally to provide for the comforts of guests water is being piped from the cyrus noble mine and hydrants arranged along the streets while there will be enough wet goods around to float a ship every team in searchlight has been engaged and after the first blowout in town the visitors will be taken around the golden circle to eldorado canyon camp thurman and other points and shown the mines no trouble will be experienced in handling the crowds for ample buildings will be finished in time to provide sleeping quarters while there is an abundance of eating houses and hotels to supply food it has been definitely decided that there shall be no raise in prices either for food or lodging and visitors can secure good meals at from 25 cents to 1 and rooms from fifty cents up to per night every miner working in the camp will take a holiday on railroad day and the big mining companies have donated their teams for the use of the entertainment committee already the vanguard of adventurers have reached camp and deputy sheriff john howe has arranged to have a large force on hand to preserve order being a peaceful community nothing is feared from the local populace and bad characters will receive orders to leave town immediately by the time the excursionists arrive every mine adjacent to searchlight will be in readiness to admit visitors below and the plants will be at the disposal of the visitors it is planned to unload hundreds of thousands of dollars in entertainment and the excursionists will be shown the time of their lives in true western style C J LINCKE |
