Show THE production OF LEAD idaho colorado and utah in the order named are the largest lead producers in the west in 1905 idaho produced short tons colorado tons and utah tons for some reason the production of these states in 1905 was less than was the case during the previous year with the exception of colorado which showed a gain of about tons production in ift 1904 was just about the same as colorados in 1905 while in 1904 output of this metal was tons utah produced more in 1903 than sho she is credited with in the year 1904 so that ahat it is clear to be seen that there has been a gradual decline in lead production in this state for the past three years in idaho the lead output pyo promises to be great er this year than ever before both th colo rado and utah however have the advantage over idaho even if the production of lead is smaller and tor for the reason thattie that the bulk of colorado and utah lead bearing ores carry a greater percentage in silver and gold than is the case with the lead ores of idaho this condition is especially true of utah ores and adrid noticeably so with the product of the mines of park city stockton ophir and alta the lead ores of american fork also go high in their silver contents the idaho ores and especially those of the coeur calenes dA lenes are exceptionally pure ores and the immen immensity s ity R of these deposits precludes any possibility x of any western state ever ida f ho in the matter of output unless per chance new fields are found which can equal the magnificent and unrivaled lead producing districts of our sister state As for utah its hope for a greater lead output is largely based on the deep creek country in tooele thoele county with a railroad or two into this extremely rich lead field utah would stand some chance of being second in the list the rejuvenation of old eld lead mines would also be a help in this direction and a number of these are even now getting their second wind with the present quotations on lead and the expectation that prices will wili go even higher there is every incentive for renewed activity in lead mining and especially ally so with silver where it is with indications that the white metal will soon touch 75 cents an ounce these conditions are very favorable for owners of lead producing properties while another factor should urge greater activity along this branch of the mining industry and this is that there is now an insistent and urgent demand for good lead properties the base metals such as lead copper and zinc while they are not as attractive as gold can easily be transposed transpose d into the royal metal and as it is the coin of realm that the mining man is striving for it matters little to him what the charac ter of his mine may be as long as it pays A good lead mine will now sell as easily easil Yz as will a gold mine copper is more sought for than gold and any one of the metals metal S silver as well are in such demand that 4 no one can make a mistake in developing and operating any prospect or m mine ne of promise |
