Show MONTANA great falls leader john T morrow the prominent mining engineer and promoter formerly superintendent of the abston montana smelter at this place and now located in new york city where he is connected with some of the greatest copper interests in america returned to the city yesterday from sapphire in the yogo district where he inspected the property of the american sapphire company in which he is one of the principal owners butte evening news the great falls smelter of the boston and montana company which is to be increased a third in capacity is receiving about all the ore it can handle in the neighborhood of tons a day of which about is second class and the rest first class ore three thousand horse power is now being developed by steam to augment the water power and the decrease in water in the missouri will make still more stream power necessary later in the season butte mining review the lewisohn general development company has struck copper ore in two places in the montgomery claim on the east side and will ma make e a shipment in a day or two it just opened a vein five feet wide by a tunnel while driving the tunnel it was also sinking a shaft the shaft reached a depths of feet several days ago and a crosscut was then started from the bottom for the purpose of intercepting the vein the face of the opening broke into the ore body yesterday the vein is supposed to be the one struck in the bertha and maggie for the workings on the montgomery are in line with those on the other properties farther north and the ore has the same general characteristics it is a north and south vein too which practically establishes the fact that the vein cut in all of these claims is one and the same the has crosscut it more than 60 feet at a depth of 50 feet and has not yet struck the foot wall the striking of the vein in montgomery ground means continued development there and the lifting of the bonds on the fhe various claims comprising the group provided of course the ore body holds out which it is likely to do for at least five miles in depth dep th the supposition now is that there are two north and south veins traversing those east side claims and that they are not far apart |
