Show OREGON gold hill news the new ten stamp mill at the braden mine began running on wednesday morning operations have been delayed for some time owing to the of belts and other parts of the mill the braden mill is the newest and most up to date mill in southern oregon and in a later issue we will give a more detailed account of the mine and its equipment grants pass mining journal langwell son of grants pass have leased the granite gulch mine located on whiskey gulch owned by charley fields and T E lewman of provolt and are doing considerable development work on it the quartz carries free gold and is easy to work but must be worked by shaft work mr langwell is well pleased with the outlook for a good mine which he thinks a little more work may develop myrtle creek mail A rich gold strike is reported near lakeview Lake view oregon the loftus brothers who have been prospecting in the hills north of that place have dis co vereda ledge from sixty to feet in width of rich free gold quartz that assays essays from 40 to per ton the ledge has been traced for several miles and is of the same formation as the famous nevada mining district nearly the whole population of lakeview Lake view have rushed to the new field sumpter american late last week brig ballantyne came in from the greenhorns greenhorne Green horns with a nice little gold brick the cleanup clean up on a property on the boulder creek side of the mountains not far from the belmont where the sensational find of two years ago was made he says that it represented hard work on a property in its infancy and one on which more muscle will have to be expended before it can reasonably call for big money to take hold of it though he is now confident that the values are going to better as depth is made until that time comes he looks upon it as being a waste of words to grow explicit he does say that the recent strike made by ira lemon and his partner patsy butler is rapidly taking upon the aspect of a big mine sumpter american john thornton who with john T donnelly cashier of the first national bank in baker own the oregon chief group of seven claims in the cableville Cab leville district came down from there on friday and went home having completed the necessary assessment work for the year mr thornton says that they now have over 1500 feet of tunnel and drift work done on the property and are in ore bodies that are an extension of the eagle and imperial veins he exhibited several specimens taken from the faces of their present workings which run iun high in both gold and copper the owners have several offers for the property but are by no means inclined to accept them and may decide before the summer advances much further to do considerable more development work on their own account grants pass mining journal contrary to the hopes and expectations of the granite hill management the flow of water into the lower levels of the mine has proven to be beyond the capacity of their present plant and it will be necessary to install a larger pump in order to make any progress against the flood the combined work of the big skip and the pumps lowered the flood gradually to the foot level but there the inflow was so great that no progress could be made beyond that point it certainly looks as though a permanent underground stream had been tapped and will prove a serious problem in the working of the property but it will in no wise interfere with the plans of the company for future development we understand that a pumping plant of larger capacity has been ordered and as soon as it can be installed operations at the mine and mill will be resumed baker city herald james goodwin who is developing his mine in the cable cove district arrived in baker yesterday and says he has struck a very fine paying ledge on the mine in the new tunnel which he is driving he has struck a ledge at a distance of about seventy feet which carries values of about 62 a ton already he has seven or eight tons of this rich ore on the dump and will continue in the development of the mine until he has a good body of shipping ore ready to be milled this mine is one of the most promising in the district mr goodwin has developed it himself under considerable difficulties he first started a tunnel a short distance from the new one but failed to strike the known ledge so he abandoned the old tunnel and started a new one on the new one he has driven about seventy feet and is directly in the face of the rich ledga which promises to produce heavily the wa walls alls are well defined and the quartz is of high grade easily worked and running high in gold values he will continue taking out ore until he has a good shipment on the dump when he will send it to the smelter |
