south boise river thursday morning the engine of their big drilling machine was fired up and about 10 the engineer pulled out for its destination all here hope I 1 the machine may go through without delay and that the experiment may prove profit able to the company silver city avalanche the sinker tunnel upraise is completed and drifting has commenced at the level it is estimated that a drift will have to be run for about feet before the oro fino ledge is tapped A diamond drill will be used for prospecting for the water that is pent up in the old workings of the oro fino and chariot manes mines the time is drawing near when the men who have spent their money on this enterprise will reap their reward by having the richest mines in the A weiser dispatch says men just down from landore in the seven devils dis district trici report that the ladd metals company is preparing to start mines and smelter the smelter will be overhauled and furnaces substituted A large amount of fuel is being accumulated and men are being placed at work in the companas comp anys properties the bins contain 2000 or tons of ore all ready for the smelter to begin operations officials of the company are arriving from portland boise statesman H C willis vice p president r i esi and manager of the adams mining company operating at thunder mountain has recently returned from the district he states the developments on the property have been very satisfactory good bodies of free milling ore having been opened up the property owned by the company is the barnett group on divide creek it is the intention to ship the mill at once that has been stored here for some months this is an Ell spass plant having a capacity of fifty tons a day it is hoped to get it started for the camp on monday next silver city avalanche contracts have been let for the tunnel work on the trade dollar extension john landburg will drive the lower tunnel it is estimated that the ledge will be cut in about feet from the portal the contract for the upper tunnel was taken by harry wesson W J arwell nicholas francis john and john jobe superintendent orem is of the opinion that the upper tunnel will catch the ledge in about fifty feet As soon as the tunnels are put in shape and the air pipes are strung the drills will be put in motion and it will soon be known whether the trade dollar extension is a misnomer or not sixteen men will be at work when the force is full salmon herald the recent change to the eight hour system at ulysses is duly appreciated precia ted by the workmen and the management finds that just as much is accomplished as under the ten hour system mr brown who brought about the change is an up to date foreman and civil engineer and superintendent edwards finds in him an ab able le I 1 assistant in working the mines economically and by the most approved methods the new road to the kittie burton mine is about completed and ore from that property will soon be pouring atno the mill the company will soon begin the work of out the vast body of ore in the ulysses which has been thoroughly exploited by drifts A pipe line will soon be in operation in the ulysses mine boise statesman the recent discovery in the daisy mine at neal continues to improve as the level is driven in on the ore it now shows four feet eight inches of ore which averages a ton while two feet of it in the center of the vein shows a value of this ore is on the fourth level west about feet west of the shaft it has been followed so far about fifteen feet and continues to improve in size and in grade george W bredehoft Bred hoft has brought down a specimen taken out of the fifth level which is the finest piece of ore yet taken from the mine it weighs pounds and runs high work has just begun on that level the vein was cut by the crosscut cross cut from the shaft some time ago but drifting was not started until this week A shot was put in just before mr bredehoft came down and this piece was thrown out at that time nampa leader herald E L abbott arrived tuesday evening from thunder mountain he reports everything in a very prosperous condition at the sunnyside Sunny side the mill is running smoothly and a large amount of ore is being crushed the run so far demonstrates that the same tonnage can be run as in the dewey it was thought at first that this could not be done on account of the difference in the formation all the buildings of the sunnyside Sunny side company are brilliantly lighted with electricity and the camp now has a very citified appearance mr abbotts last report shows that the company now has forty five deeded claims mr the new superintendent who succeeds mr abbott will be here in several days and will leave immediately for the mine accompanied by mr abbott who will familiarize him with his new duties mr abbott expects to go into the mercantile business at roosevelt and is now making arrangements to that end A nampa dispatch says E H dewey manager of the dewey mine at roosevelt has received information from the mine thata discovery has been made which gives much promise it is in a new portion of the property the understanding is the discovery was made on the surface some rich ore being found As the find has not been explored none can tell what its value may be but the circumstances of the case are such that the find seems very promising A drift is being run from the mine workings to explore the territory into which the ore should go down the dewey mill had to be closed down on the 1st ast as they were entirely out of supplies and repairs the old sectional battery that has been giving so much trouble is in bad shape and must be fixed up which cannot be done until some repair material can be sent in A shipment of pounds of supplies was started from emmett today when it reaches the camp the mill will soon be started up again mr dewey has ordered new mortars for the mill those now in use are sectional having been made in that form so they could be packed one of them has given much trouble causing a number of shutdowns shut downs and to avoid difficulty in the future new mortars will be put in |
