Show THE PECK concentrator the peck centrifugal separating company which is now operating its newly constructed mill at frisco utah on zinc tailings from the horn silver mine is treating tons of tailings daily and the capacity of the plant is soon to be increased to tons although confining operations to tailings later on the company may treat crude ore from the horn silver mine and will recover its gold silver lead contents making a separate recovery of the zinc values in the form of zinc concentrates cen so far the new plant has been operated most successfully so the mining review is informed a recovery of from 85 to 95 per cent of the metallic contents of the tailings being recorded the concentrating machine is a steel cly inder somewhat tapering and about thirty six inches in diameter which when in commission makes about revolutions per minute the cylinder being fitted with internal mechanism which assists in the separation the tailings are mixed with water and flowed through the revolving cylinder in which the values are retained by centrifugal force while the waste flows on through and is discharged from the cly inder after a considerable quantity of values have accumulated in the cylinder the flow of pulp is temporarily discontinued the speed of the cylinder is momentarily decreased and a flow of clean water is passed through the same which removes the accumulated concentrates which are delivered into a settling tank after they are sufficiently dried they are ready f for or the market after the concentrates have been discharged from the cylinder its speed of revolution is again increased the pulp is again flowed through it and the operation repeated the capacity of each machine with which the frisco mill is equipped is from to tons per day it is intended soon however to install a third machine which is now in the shop in course of tion frank W rossberg is superintending super intending at the mill |
