of the same quality as has veen been found in other parts ot of the mine being very rich and on being horned shows a string of colors clear around the pan an average of five tons of high grade and their double compartment shaft down about 70 feet on this property one of the largest dykes in the district is found and mr mceachen states that a depth of several hundred feet will be reached before group of claims it is reported made an extraordinary strike of rich ore in the tunnel he is running and that it has induced him to make a quick trip to los angeles he is giving employment to a number of miners and the property presents quite an animated scene mr sibert made several purchases of as many other mineral locations within the close vicinity of the town he has implicit confidence in the future of this district and he is forging his money to the f front to back it up aurora borealis we are informed that work is to be resumed on the myrtle and julia claim in a few days the development already done on this thi s claim show up some very flattering ore bodies running high in values and we believe when it is pushed to the cross ledge for which the tunnel is being driven that a good shaft battle mountain nevadan john hamlyn was in town from bullion last friday he called at this office and informed us that a rich strike had been made in the little gem mine owned by the reliance min mining ing company of salt lake hamlyn and kattenhorn have hav e a contract to run a tunnel on this property and in driving the tunnel the rich ore was encountered the strike is copper carrying will be outlined and followed to determine the extent of the ore bodies in the property this work will probably be carried on for some months columbia review A thirty ton shipment from the gold bar property of this district was made to the western ore purchasing companas comp anys sampler at millers station on tuesday of this week the valuation of the ore per ton will average a little better than however there ar are e thirty sacks among the shipment that carries an average of over to the ton this is the fourth shipment sent from this property since active development work commenced making a total of about 45 tons the first three being trial consignments consign ments and as a result the tonnage was not as large as they will be from now on lida en enterprise ier prise james hibbs and jack faunce came in from their work thursday bringing with them samples from a body ot ore recently opened in their workings the ore is of the character usually found in the best mines of the developed three distinct veins on the property one of these veins is composed of sulphide ore and at present shows a width ot of three feet and averages about 70 a ton another vein is of lower grade running from 14 to 20 and the third vein is now producing shipping ore in addition to the company work being done under mr davis management three leases are being operated and all are yielding ore of good shipping grade the great bend is one of the most promising properties in the Diamond field end of the goldfield district and mr davis is confident that it will soon develop into one of the best mines in the entire district eureka sentinel the american smelt ing and refining company of salt lake has bought the iron mine at gerald on the southern pacific six miles west of palisade in eureka county and the property was turned over to the new management on january 5 this mine consists of a mountain of iron and was owned until a few years ago by J A ferraro former railroad agent at palisade who disposed of it to west watson and associates the latter organized the west mining company and began operations A spur track was at once put in connecting the mine with the main line of the southern pacific and ore shipments have since been going out to the american com banys smelters shelters sm elters for flux at the rate of from to tons a day the ore has evidently stood the test of its value for fluxing flexing purposes and the immense quantity so easily available made the mine a desirable property for the american company and its purchase c was successfully negotiated |
