interests he represents could be given than the purchase the past week of tons of copper ore in order that a plentiful supply of the necessary flux is at hand to ba blena an J with the ever increasing copper its 7 plant of the oregon smelling smelting Sm elting and refining company ore which should begin about december 1 supplemented with the deliveries of other contracts justifies the prediction that after january I 1 the smelter will be operated continuously to full capacity employing a large force in its various departments when asked about the rumors of trouble with the sumpter valley company he said they are entirely unfounded and the relations between the sumpter valley railway and the oregon smelting smelling Sm elting and refining company are most cordial they are conducting their interests on strictly business principles the same as we are and we both ret et cognize the fundamental principles OL of business dealings both mr eccles ani mr barton have always shown an inclination loli to operate cooperate co in fact I 1 will put it stronger and say their impulse is to do everything possible to develop the si smelling smelting sm elting industry speaking of the past years operations mr fuller said our fiscal year closed on october 31 and I 1 will leave shortly to hand han my annual report to the directors dirge tors and feel sure the results are such that must be pleasing to the owners of the enterprise the new highland mill highlands new mill this week began its grind of high grade concentrates for the smelter and all associated with the enterprise may justly feel proud of manager sorensens Soren sens accomplishment and have that satisfied feeling that ere long their confidence in the en enterprise ter prise will he be rewarded in a substantial manner just four months from the day the millwright arrived at the mine and the framing of timbers for the buildings commenced the machinery was in operation and at that at least three weeks delay was occasioned by the government temporarily withhold ing permission for the laying of a part of the flume across a small portion of the forest reserve this delay necessitated the installation of a temporary power plant for the operation of all parts of the mill by electricity save the elspass mill which is being operated by the gasoline engine formerly used in the testing plant which will be kept in commission till the new big hydroelectric hydro electric plant is completed as originally planned secretary shelton who was present at the initial run says everything was running as smoothly as the proverbial charm but for the present the mill would handle only fifty tons daily as it is deemed best not to run it full capacity till every part had been given time to wear off the roughness that accompanies all new machinery upon completion of the mill underground work was resumed with an increased force and the developments in the big silver shoot are little short of phenomenal sloping is being continued three sets wide or fifI fifteen teen f feet and the has not yet been reached and it is the intention to make a drive across the big vein when the fifth floor is reached where it is being worked at present it shows fourteen feet of or ore e running from 15 to 50 per ton and it is the intention to immediately begin sorting the ore and shipping the higher grade crude to the smelter treating only a 20 grade in the mill the glasgo drift which is fast nearing the 1100 foot mark continues to hold its width of nine feet of milling ore and it was from this shoot that tons were placed place in the ore bins to give the mill its initial run it is believed the improved process will result in a product for the smelter running from 60 to per ton and when snow roads allow economical transportation the mine will have a daily output of from fifteen to twenty tons of concentrates and crude ore president sorensen was joined at the mine the past week by olaf grondall of fargo N D and edgar B diehl of leh masters pa two of the heaviest individual stockholders in the company and both representing large interests who are very enthusiastic thusia over the new plant and very bright future of the mine readers of american will recall the last named gentleman by his interview in this paper of may 27 in which he openly stated that after a most careful and exhaustive examination of the company he found the interests of all the stockholders fully protected and the mine in such excellent shape that he would return east and provide sufficient funds for more extensive development and the installation of an increased milling plant and the hydroelectric hydro electric plant last evening mr shelton said he had fulfilled the th mission and to him much credit was due for the successful consummation of the enterprise both mr diehl and mr sorensen ar are expected here the early part of bf next week and nd a representative of this paper will also visit the mine and its readers many of whom are interested in the enterprise will be given a more detailed description of the new plant and conditions of the mine |
