Show THE SAME SPIRIT I 1 IS S SHOWN the effort being made by certain citizens to suppress operations at the works of the silver brothers foundry and machine shops is about on a par with that being made by the farmers to get blood money out of the valley smelters shelters sm elters many of the farmers sold land to the smelting smelling sm elting companies many of them and their sons work in the smelters shelters sm elters a portion of the year and on account of the existence of the various smelting smelling sm elting plants in the valley a ready and cash market exists for nearly all the farm products that the farmers can raise and still they object to smelter smoke and fumes they wanted the smelters shelters sm elters to locate in the valley they would hate to see the smelters shelters sm elters close down or moved away but they persistently harass the smelting smelling sm elting people by asking exorbitant sums for alleged damages it is the same way in regard to silver brothers when their works were located on the west side the site of their location was barely more than a lot of waste land some of the present complainants sold or leased the land which was to be used for foundry purposes many located an in the vicinity because of being near the scene of their daily occupation the growth of the business of the company increased the value of the land in that locality the company in the matter of wages is paying out from to annually work is being done here at home which years ago it would have been impossible to secure without sending abroad for it and many thousands of dollars are turned into our home channels of trade and commerce because of the existence of these works the success of which are imperiled because of the efforts of a few who toll toil not but who all the same are willing to reap of the benefits accruing because of the existence of the industrial du enterprise which they are pleased to term a nuisance and all because the work of this establishment cannot be carried on as silently as a quaker meeting or because the odors attending foundry work are not in keeping with the fragrance of a rose bower |
