Show IN LIBERTY CAMP bonanza tonopah To nevada A representative of the bonanza spent two days at the liberty camp this week and what he saw there not only surprised surprise cl but him ledges led g es and lots of them were in evidence everywhere in fact the whole district is a network of ledges liberty is located about twenty miles north of tonopah and is one of the oldest camps in southwestern nevada its first mines having been located in the early by a man named liberty he called his claims the la libertad group and after doing considerable work on them sold them to J P cortez co in 1864 english capital was then invested and though the management was exceedingly extravagant over worth of ore was extracted within a period of three years As an evidence of the extravagance of the management it was be mentioned that the old traction engine that is seen on the streets of tonopah daily moving buildings was purchased by it and shipped to the camp from england the intention was to use it for hauling supplies and water to the camp and ore from it but it got stalled at liberty and remained there for many years afterwards being taken to columbus near candelaria where it did good service up to a short time ago when it was brought to tonopah To in 1902 cramp sons the noted ship builders of philadelphia purchased the property and it has been under development ever since under the management of W C wynkoop the property is extremely rich there being several ledges all of great width and giving high values the main shaft is now down feet with six levels level sand and each level has a large body of good grade ore but while this is the oldest mine of the camp it is not thi the best for though it averages over to the ton the callington ballington Cal lington which adjoins it on the north has a ledge on one of its seven claims which is two feet wide and gives values of to the ton then there is the cedric another promising group which at a depth of eighty feet on one claim has a ledge that gives values of from to ounces of silver and from 10 to 50 in gold albert wearing has charge of the callington ballington Cal lington and cedric the florence extension has a shaft down feet and has crosscut cross cut eighteen feet on the haging caging wall with a ledge over two feet wide from which values of ounces of silver 35 per cent copper 10 per cent lead and 6 in gold are obtained the tonopah berkley adjoins the liberty mine on the east and has a well defined ledge four feet wide which gives values ranging from 90 to L C orndorff is manager and has a shaft down feet which drifts on two levels and other workings adjoining the sheridan and smuggler claims of the liberty company are the oregon and st paul owned by tonopah people there are three well defined ledges out cropping on the claims which are wide and rich assays essays averaging nearly clear across the district is rich in mineral and only needs capital to properly open it up to make it one of the best shippers outside of tonopah To the new reduction plant now in course of construction at the company wells is only fifteen miles from liberty and with the latter place at an elevation of and the former feet it can readily be seen that a tramway or light railroad could easily transfer ore to the reduction works where it could be handled at great profit |
