Show new mill for golconda Gol condaL hill aau C sp 0 e r c re a s 1 po I 1 n d elc e 1 sumpter ore may 7 the golconda mill was closed down april 30 for the purpose of making extensive improvements and repairs manager howard declined to give out specific information in regard to the character of the improvements but it is understood that a cyanide plant large enough to handle the entire tailing output and a full set of slime tables will be installed As a matter of fact it has been proved by the mill practice of the north pole and columbia commela that the only correct treatment for cracker creek ore is the cyanide process several months ago there was some talk of the Gol condas putting in a hendryx electro cyanide plant but it is not known what determination has been made of this matter mr howard states that since the mill was started in july 1902 it has been known that the loss in values in the tailings has been very heavy and that by making certain expensive changes in the mill and milling practice this enormous loss could be greatly reduced on account of the unfortunate condition of the companas comp anys finances how dever it has been impossible hitherto to close the mill for the period required to make these improvements as it has been necessary to meet the payroll from the proceeds of the mill besides the company was not in financial shape to purchase the machinery required and make the changes needed under these conditions it was deemed advisable to bend every effort to prove and develop the ore shoot in the mine and to ascertain beyond doubt the best treatment although the milling loss amounted to several thousand dollars a month the company now feels that it is in a position to make the necessary improvements development work at the mine however will proceed during the interim an authentic report comes from the bonanza of the discovery of a fabulously rich pocket of ore foud cars of this ore are said to vave have been hoisted from the shaft that yielded on en the plates of one stamp battery thirty stamps are dropping steadily at the bonanza last week a raise from the 1200 to the 1100 foot level was completed and begun in a twelve foot body of milling ore the bonanza is one of the big mines of eastern oregon dr ed W mueller of the killen warney warner stewart company returned from the slices gulch placers operated by this corn com pany a richest the bed is twenty five feet deep with pay dirt all the way down very rich stuff being found on bedrock on account of the extremely heavy snowfall last winter affording an abundant supply of water the placer season this year will be unusually long iong A five drill compressor plant will be installed at the platts group operated by the geiser hendryx company just as soon as the roads are in condition to allow the transference of the machinery the platts mine is located in the rock creek district the higher regions of which are now covered with snow to the depth of several feet electrical energy will probably be used for running the new compressor jesse hobson is preparing for spring work at his holland gulch placers two miles below town he says the snow is off the 0 ground round now and there is plenty of water running aiese placers have been worked for gr years and a great deal of gold taken f from a them numerous pockets have b been een found the largest said to have concentrating cent rating plant has started on its pernia nent run the company will have no trou brou ble in concentrating at least seventy five tons of ore every twenty four hours while the concentrating system is new still it has been pd proved oved to be the very best for the quality of ore produced by the mine the concentration it is claimed will be no more inore than one half as much as the stamp mill system it is a roller process and the first of its kind to be installed in this raining mining district the saving of free gold it is stated will more than pay all expenses ofrain of
