Show goldfield the randsburg brandsburg Rands burg of nevada goldfield nev may 7 when tonopah was discovered a little more than two years ago there was considerable doubt concerning the glowing reports which came from this camp the history of this camp however has demonstrated that the re ports had good foundation several mines have been developed and fortunes have aden feen made experts reports show that are must be fully now ext posed in this camp some visitors to the camp have v reported that there will be more money made aiom rpm this one camp in the att ct two years than from r a any ny other camp in the 5 country the testimony j of mr charles M schwab 1 after his recent fisit visit to the mines of tonopah To is s well worth repeating repeating on I 1 this occasion he said 1 it seems to me incon J ceivalle cei cel vable that anyone could visit tonopah and see it as I 1 have seen it during durin way of introduction it is now a little more than a year ago that two prospectors inspired by the success of development at tonopah To went south to search for gold they located a few claims in what was then called the grandpa district this is now known as goldfield these young men found some fair prospects it was not until near the 1 close of last year that lucli interest was brict many have gone into the camp for the purpose of investing and after careful investigation have taken hold of properties many rich strikes have been made in the camp showing that the rich gold belt beit has an extent of more than five miles and that it is fully three miles wide several prospects have been developed in ill the mines in the past few months with but little work mr R A marr a well known mining ex pert writes as follows 7 73 i the last few fe w days without being enthusiastic over its possibilities y 1 I never dreamed that such wealth lay r hidden chidden in these desert hills and ancl claims 1 I have seen your mines and one word j only expresses what we have to say and that word is astonished we are astonished dished at he wealth of your mines tonopah To is far beyond anything I 1 dreal dreamed ned of we will not take our money away but will double it up and go at it aright right so much for the history of tonopah To by THE CAMP OF GOLDFIELD manifested in the new camp some reports of important finds began to leak out and gained credence in the outside world at christmas time there had bee been n heard bu but t little of the wonderful richness of this district and there was no conception of the great wealth which the region was capable of pr producing educing cing by the first of this year there were scarcely two hundred people in the whole region around goldfield now there are four town sites laid out and probably twenty five hundred people in the dis 18 f 1 I am particularly impressed with the new camp of goldfield the future possibilities of which no one can foretell there are already five properties that are producing shipping ore and a number of others that have ore of high grade and it assim is simply a matter of development when they will join the list of shippers this is certainly a remarkable record for a camp less than six months old and where anere snipping shipping ore means that it runs better than per ton some idea of the richness of this camp may be gained fr from om the record made by several of the most prominent properties last fall the combination was bonded for the bond was to run for one year in sinking the shaft to a dep depth th of about eighty feet the full purchase price of the property was taken out it is stated that every pound of rock that came out of the shaft was ore running from a ton to several 11 hundred undred the shaft on this property has now reached a depth of feet good values are still maintained the shipments have run from to a ton it is stated that the total so far produced from this mine is not including the large amount of very high grade milling ore stored on the dump one important feature in the development of this property is that at a depth of about feet the character of the ore changed to a sulphide mining men feel confident that the ore deposits go to a great depth inasmuch as the values were camp for capitalists are very great property can us usually bally be gotten hold of on reasonable terms and as soon as the mining world fully realizes the importance of gold fields many properties now lying idle for want of capital for development will be opened up and join the list of producers it is the almost unanimous opinion of competent mining men who have visited goldfield that the mines will not be confined to eight or ten in number but will extend over an area six miles square the most striking feature of the dincov J jr A SACKING ORE AT THE JANUARY not lost in this change in the character of the ore the history of the combination well represents the history of the jumbo the blue bull the daisy and several other important propositions the red top has disclosed some very high grade shipping ore other prospects which are showing up rich ledges are the florence lone star hat sandstorm deserted quartz tokop bokop and many others one of the early companies incorporated to operate in goldfield was wag the golda goldfield beld vindicator work on this property is developing ve loping a very good ledge at the present time the superintendent is running a crosscut through highly mineralized ground mr F farl earl arl C dart writes of th the e V vindicator indicator gardup group as follows the ore possibilities of the vindicator group are equal to any in the district and when that is said any one conversant with this wonderful camp knows that it is saying a great deal the railroad to conopa tonopah h connecting with the southern pacific will soon reach that town and if the showing at goldfield golda beld will warrant as many think it will the road will probably be continued to the new camp As Vold goldfield field is only about twenty eight miles south of tonopah To the new road will afford better facilities for shipping the ore than are now offered and it is likely that the camp will see a very great increase in activity before the end of the season we quote again from the opinion of mr marr who is considered valuable authority in mining matters who says the opportunities presented in this eries so far made in goldfield and the surrounding region is that the values are chiefly in gold there seems to be very little silver in the ores so far mined the ore is free milling and the tonnage of this quality is piling up rapidly the surface indications in the camp are not very favorable for a mining camp work has shown that appearances are deceiving the editor of the goldfield news in writing of the jan uary claim says the surface indications of the january argued that it would make a good sheep ranch ranc h if it had plenty of water but the ledge was uncovered at a depth of bf only eighteen inches when first opened up the rock ran 80 per ton but after a few shots were put in ore running from to per ton was encountered water is being found so that this campa camp is likely to be supplied with good mills for fop the handling of the large tonn tonnage age of mill milling IrIg ore which would be regarded regard dd as high grade shipping ore if found near railroad in utah considering the showing that is being made in this young but remarkable camp it may well be termed the randsburg brandsburg Rands burg of nevada if not of america we are largely indebted bd to the able editor of the
