Show ARIZONA MINING NEWS special correspondence phoenix arizona feb 23 29 the anderson metals extraction company has commenced work on the foundations for eleven cement tanks at mccabe mccabb in yavapai county for its cyanide plant to work the tailings under royalty produced by the model gold mining companas comp anys mill these tanks will be forty three feet in diameter each and four feet high there are about 25 tons of these tailings the company expects its machinery to arrive within the next sixty days from the east and hopes to be operating by may 15 running one hundred tons per day they have ten men at work on the plant the company is backed by sufficient capital to thoroughly demonstrate the anderson cyanide process H J beemer of the amalgamated gold company who is personally superintending super intending the erection of a sixty stamp mill expects to have it in operation by july next the property is at quartzite miles from martinez the nearest railroad station the company has an expert driller employed and will put down a hole feet if nee necessary to develop water an electric motor train will be used to haul machinery and supplies from martinez to the camp the generator for this train weighs ten tons and is supplied with ninety horse pow er engines and seventy five horsepower generating motors the cars weigh four and a half tons and havi have e three and a half horsepower motors on a good road fifteen tons to the car is a load the speed is about ten miles per hour and when working full capacity about eight gallons of gasoline or distillate is used per hour the water from the engines is thrown onto a netting and cooled by an electric fan and reused re used this generating car is the second machine of this type to be put in use and was built by the gibbs engineering and manufacturing company of glendale N Y at a cost of freight on the outfit was there are about twenty men employed on road work and in the mines of the ger man american company near vivian this company is soon to install a milling plant of large capacity the main shafts on the two prominent mines of the group are now down in the neighborhood of feet and sinking is still being continued above these levels the mines have been thoroughly developed showing great bodies of very high grade milling ore old dominions smelting smelling sm elting cost at its new plant is about per ton as com compared parea with costs of between 5 and 6 at its old plant its mining cost including extraordinary development work and expenses of it its s new shaft is about per ton as compared with costs of between 6 and 7 per ton under the old regime this reduction in costs with the high price for the metal permits of the treatment of 5 per cent ore this has never before been possible and should add materially to this com banys dividends in 1905 at the pfau mine in yavapai county between forty and fifty men are working and matters on the mill now erecting are being pushed forward rapidly and it is said the mill will be completed at the end of this month it is said that its operation and theory for the crushing of ores is something new in this section of the country for that matter the ore is crushed by friction A large cylinder is revolved horizontally and when partly filled with ore the rotation thereof grinds the mass into the finest kind of particles that can be easily plated and then cyanided the outcome of this new contrivance is being eagerly watched for if it does near as well as its projectors claim it will result in a great saving to mill men in the crushing and handling of ore |
