Show AS TO DIVIDENDS utah the baby mining state in the union as far as the development of its mineral resources are concerned bids fair within the next few years to head the list as far as dividend disbursements are concerned and yet no great furore is being created in financial and investment circles over the splendid record that our mines have made in this respect and this in a period within the memory of the newest arrival in uncle sams latest acquisition to the sisterhood of states As a matter of fact in rounding up the number of producers within the environments of utah and comparing them with the mines of adjoining states and territories it is made quite plain that we can boast of more big dividend payers comparatively speaking than can any other section in the west for years colorado has stood second in the list of dividend payers montana having held the proud position of heading the column but now however utah puts forth strong claims for second place while arizona is running neck and neck w with 1 th colorado for third place there are many we well know who will be surprised at this statement and who jhb will be inclined to qu question atlon its accuracy but it is an old say ing that figures dont lie and we are able to produce the figures as furnished by our esteemed temporary co mining reporter of denver which in its issue of february 9 gave a list of the mining divi dividends denas pal paia by the mineral pro duang states and territories of the united states for the year 1904 this list mining reporter states has been compiled with a great deal of care and while it may not be absolutely accurate it is a fair guide to go by in making a comparison of the amounts paid by the different mineral producing sections of the united states it is for the purpose of comparison that these statistics are given to a large extent and in going over the tables carefully we find that in the year 1904 colorado mining companies paid in round figures in dividends while for the same period mining companes of utah disbursed in bread money or more than was paid by our gur sister state tue best advertised mining section in the world and over which people have gone wild for more than half a century in glancing at the figures presented by mining reporter other facts of interest present themselves one of which is that for the past year no colorado mining company has paid an amount equaling while utah has two companies which paid in excess of this su sum in each while another company paid the record showing that the largest sum paid by a colorado company the camp bird was but its nearest competitor being the portland with to its credit thus it will be seen that utah so little advertised so young in its mining experience and so generally overlooked by the mining man and the investor is yet entitled to worldwide world wide consideration as one of the greatest mining states of the west we are all proud of its record of the many splendid opportunities offered here in the mining line and we all feel in excellent spirits ov over erthe the further fact that the present year gives promise of better things in the way of ore production and in dividend payments than we have ever been able to chronicle in the past |
