this place has just perfected a deal with bela kadish owner of the baker city sampling works whereby the sampling works was taken over by a lease and will be operated by the smelting smelling sm elting company the acquisition of the sampling plant places the smelting smelling sm elting company on a through line of transportation and gives it the advantage of a depot and warehouse at the terminus of the sumpter valley railroad which reaches this property here it also nas the further advantage of affording the means of taking care of consignments consign ments less than carload lots and effecting a settlement with the owner of ores shipped to the smelter before they reach their desti antion here it is understood that the plant is to be enlarged in order to take care of f the trade which the smelting smelling sm elting company is rapidly building up the smelter is now completed and will blow in just as soon as the siding aiding from the sumpter valley railroad is completed nell neil J sorensen president of the highland gold mines company returned this week from a trip to the property he reports that a rich ore snoot three feet wide has been encountered and entered some distance this ore shoot was encountered thirty feet from the point where the bannock durn burn crosscut opened the vein in the drift of the shoot a medium grade of milling ore was passed through this was rather darker than the high grade stuff and showed more iron ahe he shoot is now three feet wide and as the work gees ahead it is spreading across the drift with every indication that in a short distance it will fill the tunnel the entire three feet averages between 30 and 40 R J davison of bath new york president of the oregon mines exploration company owning and operating the snow creek property arrived in the city this week and made a trip to the mine anine he was accompanied by charles M brown of denver who is seeking mining investments in the district president davison is well pleased with the management of the property and its state of development the snow creek company has finished plans for a ten stamp mill and has called for bids the mill will be installed this summer adrian G hanauer a spokane mining man was here this week and perfected a transfer for the victor group in the cracker creek district the property has now passed into the hands of mr hanauer and eastern business associates it was a cash transaction while no sum aum is named it is understood that the transfer represented a considerable amount of money albert geiser of the geiser hendryx company takes charge of the property as its superintendent development operations will be pushed vigorously during the season A compressor plant and other accessory machinery will be installed as the work progresses the victor group represents five full claims and contains the continuation of the cracker oregon ledge the california company is continuing to sack ore at its cracker creek mine awaiting a better condition rf of roads for shipment A burch of spokane who recently tool took a bond on the independence was in the city this week and let a contract for feet of tunnel A snyder and P 1 D jones of duluth both heavily interested in sumpter mining properties were in the city this week and expressed themselves as highly pleased with the outlook work was resumed this week on the lucky the big seventy feet above the tunnel level and in the best part of the yielded a return of 32 a ton for a width of about six feet this must not na bo be taken to indicate the average of the shoot but it shows the remarkably fine lenses which occur from time to time in the shoots of high grade milling ore the company is now pushing development work into the wide west claim under the great outcrop
