Show GREAT SHOWING IN MOUNTAIN LAKE A recent issue of the daily herald had the following to say regarding the remarkable showing in the mountain lake mine near brighton on the big cottonwood divide a few miles from salt lake city after releasing the information yesterday that the mountain lake and great western companies operating at the head of big cottonwood canyon were preparing to install powerful compressors and drilling plants at the mines manager david evans consented to give the details of he mammoth strike which has been made in the former both of the properties mentioned are very closely held evans jesse knight james H moyle and senator joseph L rawlins being the practical owners though something like of the shares in the mountain lake are scattered it has leen been known for some time past that a good showing existed in the mountain lake but no one outside of the chief owners has been in possession of detailed information on the subject and they declined to talk up to yesterday it had been the intention not to attempt shipments from the property until spring but during the afternoon a contract was made and just as soon as the road to the property can be shoveled out the hauling of ore to the samplers will be undertaken and continued throughout the winter early in the spring after the installation stal lation of the new machinery production will begin on a large scale the news concerning the physical condition of the mountain lake companas comp anys mine cannot be described as a strike in the gen eral meaning of the term it is more than that it has been a continuous revelation from the moment that the crosscutting cross cutting of the monster ledge began quite awhile back and after the tunnel had been driven in a distance of feet to begin with the ledge has now been crosscut cross cut for a distance of seventy five feet the face is in a solid body of ore that samples as high or higher than anything gone through and there is no indication of how much farther it will be necessary to run to get through the vein A careful sampling of the first twenty five feet gave average returns of 4 per cent copper seven ounces silver and 80 cents in gold per ton the second stretch of twenty five feet rau ran 8 per cent copper seven ounces silver and in gold while the average of a half dozen samples taken in running the last feet discloses a showing of per cent c opper copper in gold and eight ounces silver per ton for a distance of nearly twenty feet back of the last twenty five foot section of the crosscut cross cut clit the values are described as being nearly as good as the last while an eight foot rib running through the mass not far back from the face of the crosscut cross cut carries values in the metals named sufficient to give it a market value of at least 60 per ton this work has been done at a vertical depth beneath the surface of feet and as an incline sent down feet from the surface discloses average values of 8 per cent copper 2 gold and six ounces silver per ton the management has every reason to believe that a large sloping area of good shipping ore is now assured these developments indicate that the mountain lake company has about the biggest high grade copper gold proposition in this state and with the installation of the new machinery it will undoubtedly become a heavy producer the owners have no thought of disposing of the property their intention having been from the first to holdmand hol hold dand and mine it themselves the great western property northeast of the mountain lake haiie is developing into one of the greatest low grade copper gold propositions at the same time it is controlled by the same men |
