Show AN ORGANIZED EFFORT the review very much dislikes to make the assertion that our people are very backward when it comes to adver advertising abroad to the world the marvelous resources of our state state in the way of mineral wealth oil coal iron iron and other commercial commodities but it is an undisputed fact all the same to be candid in the matter utah is barely more than a cipher when it comes to organized effort in proclaiming from the housetops house tops from the pinnacles of our lofty mountain ranges that in utah are to be found some of the greatest wealth producers the world has ever known we know that the mineral depositions of utah stand unrivaled without a peer in this great rocky mountain region we know that if utah mining camps were located in colorado in montana or california that eastern people would go wild over them that investors would invade their canyons and hills in droves troops and regiments and that no difficulty whatever would be experienced in securing ample capital for the development and exploitation of every ledge and prospect within their environments but as it is but comparatively few have any definite knowledge of the wonderful mineral wealth with which dame fortune has endowed the legion of mines within the boundaries of our fair state and for the reason that utah people are sleeping on their rights and privileges and because they have but a vague conception of the benefits to be derived in calling widespread wide spread attention to the immensity the magnitude and the accessibility of our deposits of gold silver lead and copper and their products byproducts by our our wonderful moun mou bains of iron great beds of coal in addition to the splendid indications of the existence of oil in inexhaustible quantities colorado years ago held out no better inducement as a mining country than does utah today and yet for years the eyes of the financial and mining world have been focused on the mining industry of the centennial state and mining in this section has been at a fever heat for many years its mines and mining camps have become familiar in every town and hamlet in the east north and south and in the most obscure hamlets of europe and not because colorado is richer in its mineral deposits than other western states but solely because of the fact that Color colorado adomines mines have been advertised and written up so systematically so scientifically and minutely that even the tramp on the highways and at railroad tanks are familiar with the output of every mine and the progress being made in the development of almost every prospect within the environments viron ments of our sister state the result being that when one speaks of mining in any form the question naturally arises is the mine located in colorado 11 spasmodically and at long intervals an effort is made by utah people to advertise to the world the peerless wealth of mining camps but the results if any are measured by the limited effort made and are not as gratifying and substantial as they would be if the business men of this city and state had combined for the purpose of keeping constantly before our eastern friends the wonderful possibilities ties in a mining way offered in the vario various u 9 mining camps in in the state by which salt lake is virtually surrounded the merchant does not advertise his wares one month in a year with the expectation that this will answer all purposes for the ensuing eleven months should he follow this course the sheriff would soon embellish his front door with a notice headed sheriffs sale it is the daily advertiser ver tiser who reaches the acme of success the same reasoning applies to our mining industry which if properly advertised would double its prosperity and the industry would receive the attention from the outside it so richly deserves and in cime utah would receive reco recognition r as the equal if not the peer of any of the western states in its production of imperishable wealth |
